I'm sure the topic has been posted many a time...

Does anyone have experience of something similar?

How much would it cost to fix it? They are not clean scratches, but jagged, and there's a slight dent at the top of the damage (about 8cm long x 3cm)

    Is it a BMW?

    Plastic bumper?

Could be fairly expensive if that's the case.

Yes, it is a BMW. Material isn't metal.

What difference does it make if it is a BMW or not if it is repairable?

Bumpers havent been made of metal for years now either.

    Anybody offer any advice?

Has anyone experienced anything similar and came out happy?

OP, you could come at this from a different angle.
If people knew roughly what part of the country you're in, they might be able to give you recommendations of companies they've used for paint repairs, and you could then give these a ring to get rough prices.

    Agreed.

    I'm in Limerick.

Dealt with one bodyshop here before, agreed a price of 160, left the car with him and when I came back he said 'no I said 260 man', and things got aggressive.

There was nearly headbutts thrown to get the car back.
Anyway, he got 160 and that was it.

    Fantastic job though.

I don't mind a fella earning his days wage, but he looked at the car, said 160 and tried to pull a stroke. I actually had an extra 20 just as a tip before he chanced it.

I'm sick to my back teeth of dodgy guys.

If someone here with a lot of posts (mod maybe?) can recommend someone who is honest, I'd be grateful.

    Joe Crash Repair in Ballysimon.

Thank you. I seen that place. It looks he sunk a bit of investment in there.

Are they good? Particularly in terms of giving it to me straight.

This could go from anything from a skim of filler, to taking off the bumper and 'welding' it, to sanding, priming, repainting and all that jazz.

I'm not touching it anyway, I want it done correctly

    Ace Body shop in Clondrina?

That scratch it match it guy?

What I don't want is a guy telling me I need a new egr valve when 3 years, 40k miles, and 2 nct emissions tests later the car is still going and two mechanics refused to agree (different car to bmw)

Or another mechanic telling me that the timing belt was gone in the mrs car and engine had seized, when all it was was oil leaking from the rocker gasket, spark plugs burnt, ignition coil issue, and was repaired handy.

Will try him, and for completeness I'll try get 2 more quotes elsewhere.

It can be fixed though, yes? To look as though never happened? Anybody know this?

Guy by the name of Naughton worked magic on my fathers car about 5 years ago, but it was a different type of damage. It was clean scratches and on a panel. My problem is on a bumper.

    Thanks for help

It just looks scuffed to me so it shouldn't be a hard fix.

Just make sure the paint is matched well and it should be like it never happened

If you zoom in you will see it's dented near the top.. other than that, it's jagged scratches as if you got a steak knife and ran it across.

So that's two issues? Am I ok on both?

OP can you PM me the name of the body shop that fixed your car and that wanted to charge you 260 instead of 160 what they originally told you.
I had family car fixed in one of the garages in Limerick this week and we are very happy with the job done, I m just curious what garage is the one that tried to play you and if it's the one in which we had our car fixed.

It's near enough Thomond Bridge, so I hope that narrows it down enough..

To be fair, as angry as I am, I really do not want to mention the shop, cos that's not fair, or reflective of a due process etc

Let the story suffice for it's purpose, which is that I had a very bad and frustrating experience somewhere, and that I need a recommendation of a good honest guy, doing quality work at fair prices.

It's as simple as this.. I've got a family to feed.
He's got a family to feed / a life to live, or what have you.

I've no problem paying a guy what something costs, what the skill demands. I don't wanna squeeze him, and I hope he won't try squeeze me. That's how I roll.

But if another one of these guys tries to pull one of these stunts..

On a separate note, current guy who works on my car and mrs car is solid, knows his stuff and is as honest as they'll come. Thank god.

*Edit: And let me add, in fairness there are other competitors in this area that are as sound as they come. Salt of the earth, making an honest living I'm sure. But this c#nt I dealt with, uhhhhh!*

Went and got a few quotes today.

To compare apples with apples, I asked each what they recommended to get it back to showroom condition, pointing the opposite side as the example of what I want.

The bumper is absolutely immaculate condition (aside from this scuff!!!)

    Ranged from:

    1. 'a skim of filler will do and you are back to showroom', (no bumper removal needed)
    2. 'bumper needs to come off, repair, and entire bumper repainted or you're wasting your time, it won't look right if you do it any other way'
    3. 'bumper needs to come off, repair area, and repaint/blend area and it'll be like it never happened'

I'm worried about the different view points.

I am stuck as to what is the right balance between:

    1. the correct thing to do, and
    2. overkill.

You know, the whole 'buy bad, buy twice' saying.
