manual stop-start

You know those eco cars with the stop-start system, well what if i was to manipulate the stop start process on my petrol car every time i stopped at traffic lights would it make a difference to my mpg?? or would it burn out the starter motor (do modern cars have starter motors?)

If it's not standard on a car - don't. Unless of course you know the stop is going to be long,

Basically just turn car off?how long do you sit at traffic lights for it to interfere with mpg
