Im looking for a mechanic in Cork to get a 1964 Wolseley 1500 started up and roadworthy.

The car has been stored for about three years and in great condition. It was running fine when put into storage.

I know it will definitely need new leads and a battery and probably plugs and points. I doubt it will need much more.

Ive decided to sell it so just want to get it up and running.

    Any takers ?

There is no mechanics in Cork whatsoever. I was (and I still am) looking for somebody to do something on my engine, but unfortunately it seems that there are no people with skills who are able to work on those old machines. I thought it's probably because nobody knows any good mechanics here, but more likely those people aren't out there. Try UK, or go to mainland Europe.

There is this clicking noise on one side when the engine is running (it need some adjustment I suppose). Also I would like it to run properly as it should without me just guessing with the screwdriver in my hand.

Do NOT try that lad. Years ago my friend had his Astra there and this guy gave him some random spark plugs (which he found out later). Definitely avoid.

I tried (I won't give a name) one mechanic and asked him to tune the engine, have a look what is that clicking noise and sort it out. He gave me the car back later and said "he had no time". This is really, really sad.

You sure it was the same guy?

Hes always done great work to my cars - event after one got hit with an truck.

real attention to detail and knows his cars/engines.

one example is my battery died any time my car was not used regularly.
John discovered it was the radio was causing a drain and plugged it out- sorted.

any other mechanic would have changed the batt, alternator etc and charged me for it.

Really think you have the wrong guy mate.

What engine? Could be an exhaust leak, loose tappets or (BMW?) noisy injectors.

..oh, and I agree - finding a good mechanic anywhere can be a struggle.

With out even thinking hard i know of six mechanics who i would recommend to do work on a classic car. Mike Gravina in Total Auto Solutions in Carrigtwohill is one, Mark Kelleher is another, Kevin O'Riordan in Conna and Kilgarvan car museum in Kilgarvan too. I've been restoring classic cars for over twenty years now and there are lots of cowboys around cashing in on classics there's no doubt but all the above are genuinely interested in classic cars as i am too and even though there's more money to be made out of modern cars i still prefer classics.

hi guys, im looking for a classic car mechanic in cork area also, im trying to replace my rear wheel bearings in my 1976 spitfire, i have the drive shafts removed already , just need to give them to a mechanic who has a hub puller or hydraulic press. i know its a small job (but can be hard to get off!) for most mechanics, but i might have future work also to be done.
the guy recommend here in carrigtwohil, is he good?
