Hi all I'm just wondering if anyone can advise me on some good cycling routes around Cahirciveen.
I'm not from Kerry but I'll be working down there for a few months from next week.

I started cycling late last year so I'm only up to 30-50km spins at the minute, and I plan on bringing the bike to keep building up the kms.

Most spins will be very early morning, or maybe evenings once the time changes.

Any local advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers :)

    Some lovely routes nearby.

    (1) Caherciveen to Glenneigh - Caragh Lake - Glencar - Ballaghasheen Pass - Caherciveen
    80km - 1 savage climb

    (2) Caherciveen - Watervill - Derrynane - Sneem - Ballaghbeama Gap - Ballaghasheen - Caherciveen
    110km 1 lovely climb, 2 savage climbs

Valentia is lovely for a cycle.

For longer cycles you should head to Killarney or Molls Gap, but via Ballaghasheen and Glencar. Ultra quiet roads in terms of traffic. Stunning scenery.

IIRC, Killorglin CC have a group that head out from Waterville/Caherciveen.
Also during the summer, the Iveragh 200 is run from Waterville - well worth doing.

If you pop into Casey's cycles in Caherciveen, Eamonn will be able to let you know what the KCC group are up to.

Find OS map 83 to see the roads.

Take in Valentia, Port Magee, St Finans Bay, Ballinskelligs...stunning area.

Some good routes there, I'd be very familiar with the main N70 having worked on it for 6 weeks last year, Molls Gap into Killarney (N71) is beautiful.

Thanks for the tips, will look into them in more detail when I get down
