NCT on an Imported car

Discovered something earlier which may or not be an NCT test anomaly with an Imported car.

The car was originally registered in the UK in June 2007. It was imported into this country and registered in Sept 2012.

The owner tells me he did his NCT and it shows the NCT is valid until Sept 2014, and not June 2013 as he expected. I always thought the test "anniversary" date was related to when it was first registered in its country of origin, and not its date of registration here

The NCT FAQ pages says this
    4. How do I know when my car is due to be tested?

All cars should be tested on or before the anniversary date of first registration of the car in the country of origin (see note regarding imported cars below).

(There is no subsequent note below which clairifies the issue I'm referring to)

So on the face of it, what's happened here in my friends case appears to be at variance to what the NCT are saying on their own site.

My wife has an imported car and her test anniversary always falls on its date of registration in its country of origin, and not the date is was imported.

So, does anyone know what the exact situation is now with regards to what date the test anniversary is calculated against for imported vehicles?

NCT for imported vehicles is due at the day of registration in Ireland provided imported vehicle is over 4 years old.

It used to be difference (it used to be date of first registation in country of origin which did matter) but this was changed in 2009 or 2010.

So everything is OK with your friends car.

Thanks for that! Is there anywhere online where those facts are detailed. Certainly it caught both of us by surprise - even if what's on the NCT site seems to contradict it somewhat! :D
