Need Opinions

I am currently looking for a new car. I have €7-8000 to spend and have been looking at diesel A4's and Passat's.

I would prefer an A4 but is there any need to pay more for an A4?
What do they offer over a Passat? Would you really notice 10 bhp in the real world?

How would a 320d compare to the two above? Would they cost more to fix if something went wrong compared the A4/Passat?

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have changed my mind that many times I don't know what I really want now. I was even looking at a MK5 GTI but I don't think I would be able to run it. I average 20000 km a year.

    Please help.

I personally would choose the passat but do gave a soft spot for the newer Audis..
10bhp would make very little difference even if it were the same model hut since its two different makes the lower bhp could actually be faster..if its power your after most modern diesels can be chipped by basically un plugging a connection and plugging in a little box (up to 30bhp claimed)

The Passat is larger than the A4 or 3 Series and uses the space alot better too especially rear leg room and boot size. Servicing will cost around the same on all three brands and also imo if something major goes wrong with any of them there will not be much in the difference in repair bills either.

You don't even need one of these tuning boxes, most modern diesels can be remapped or upgraded using software. I have mine done almost 2 years now and have no issues whatsoever with it. Get it done by someone who knows what they are doing is the only advice.

Thanks for the opinions lads. I went around today and had a look in some dealers, needless to say they don't have much of a choice any more.
I resorted back to searching the web and I think it is going to be hard to pick up a car with low milage with my budget.

I have now changed, yet again, my choice of cars. I think I am going to have to stick to petrol and look for a 1.6 Golf or Focus. I'm half thinking of buying a MK4 gti just to see what it would be like to run and hold onto my 1.4 golf just as a fall back.

Choosing a car is difficult :(

Personally I'd go for the Passat. I have an A4 and it gives trouble

(electrical problems) And you'd be able to get a newer Passat than an Audi at that price
