I need to chase a block wall for three separate plugs... so wires in conduit from the ceiling to near the floor.
I don't own any fancy tools but I do have a hammer and chisel ( if that's any good) ..

Whats the best way to do this job.

    Thanks.

Hire out a "wall chaser" for 35 euro for the day from a hire shop/builders providers.

It will cut your chase routes into the wall in no time at all.

Also get some large dust sheets and open the windows too,as there will be plenty of dust.

    Best of luck.:)

Personally, if its a DIY job and the house is being lived in I would be slow to use a diamond blade for cutting. The dust is unreal.

You could try using a SDS with chisel action, but progress will be slower.

It can be done with a hammer and chisel too OP, just a lot more labour intensive. You could score the chase line down the wall with the chisel,or if you had a hammer drill follow that line with a good few holes of similar depth. Take out the waste with the hammer and chisel, slow and tedious imo but it can be done.
Chasing is never dust free, maybe a hoover and a second hand hoover-bag.

Good luck with the hammer and chisel you won't get a foot and you will give up.Hire borrow or steel a kango and a drill and work from there

I did it with a hammer drill there is plenty of dust with one of those too. They are quick enough you could hire one for half a day and you would have it done in an hour or 2. The only thing that will slow you is to give your arm a rest. Two of us did it so we just swapped about every now and then.

Dust is unavoidable but above solution is the way to go. Any of the alternatives mentioned above are too labour intensive.

dust is unavoidable really..no chance you'll do it with a hammer chisel..personally id go with a minigrinder and cut the width of the conduit and chisel/hammer it out..and have someone holding a hose with a trickle of water dripping down onto the blade as you cut..it will limit an awful lot of the dust..id also buy a roll of duct tape around doors ect to stop dust spreading.

Thats exactly what a "wall chaser does".:)

Perfect precise cuts into the wall for installing duscting and/or utilities.

More likely to be knocking off lumps of plaster around the wall,by going down the hammer and chisel route and very labour intensive aswell.

I agree with renting a wall chaser and if you can't and know a friend with an angle grinder and an sds drill with a chisel function.... it will do the same job but not quite as neat and a lot slower to do.

Thanks for all the advice folks. I think its the wall chaser for me.
Since my first post the number of plugs has gone up to six. Do you think I would get all six done in a half day.

    Thanks

The chasing ? No problem. Then take it off hire and add your conduit / cable and sockets at your leisure.
