Thinking of buying one of these it has Co2 emissions of 154, the bday of the car is march of 08.. Has this got the cheap tax or has the car to be passed July of the year..

Any 2008 car registered before July will be taxed on the cheapest rate, so the tax on that vectra would be €390 per year.

Type the reg of the car in below and it will tell how much the tax is on it:

what about a UK import would it be on the low tax rate no matter what month it is?

It was only Irish cars first registered from 1st Jan 2008 to 30 June 2008 that had the option of either tax system, whichever was the lowest. It is very unlikely that any owner would have opted for the higher tax system especially if the car was diesel. All imports first registered from 2008 onwards automatically go on the new Co2 system.

Just to add, aiming for the low tax system can be a false economy in alot of cases. The purchase price difference between a 2007 on the old system and a 2008 on the new system can be thousands of euros because Joe Public wants a 2008 for the lower tax. This price difference saving can potentially buy you alot of motor tax.
