The aircraft landed safely back on Dublin's runway 10 about 35 minutes later. The aircraft was able to depart again after two hours on the ground and reached Boston as flight EI-1137 with a delay of 4.5 hours.

Interesting as EI-EAV only returned from a C check in Bordeaux 10 days ago on the 19th of February.

Wonder if something was messed up by the boys in Bordeaux?

Well if it returned 10 days ago it would have completed at least 16-18 flights since then....so I doubt it. Aircraft have tech snags all the time.

Well things can take a little while to surface, 10 days isn't all that long in the scheme of things for something to rear its head. Of course you're right though, could be totally unrelated, just a little more unusual I guess seeing as it was supposed to have just come out from a thorough servicing...

Why should the public know , next thing it's a headline in some rag?

    Cause maybe they are interested?
Certainly if I was on that flight, I would definitely want to know.

    Fair enough.

Would the engines be included in the C check though? I was under the impression that they had their own maintenance schedule and checks. So if it was an engine problem the C check on the airframe wouldn't have picked up on it.

Obviously nothing major seeing as it departed a couple of hours later.

I'm sorry , turning back is a major event with multiple redundancy systems, together with an overweight landing, hence I asked the ?

Maybe it was a medical issue which can force ones cards.......

It's an etops aircraft, you'd be surprised at the little things that can cause them to turn back.

    Wow.
    What an insightful answer.
God forbid folk on an aviation forum might be interested.

More the reason you continue as I muddy the waters......etops dispatch requirements evaporate the second the parking brake is released. In many cases you can continue but are called back to base as they can't fix the snag at destination. It's rare but it happens, I suspect this might have been the case.....

my sis was on the flight...like everyone else they were just happy that they turned back

They were told that the de-icer on Engine 2 wasnt working well...returned, fixed, refuelled and off again

    I am only the postman....

Another Aer Lingus had a problem at Barcelona on Monday.
