Weird server problem here...

    So I have a few MC servers running on my server. They're stock, no Bukkit or anything like that. I connect to my server using Windows RDP.

    With the servers idling, CPU usage is around 20-30% (G550, 2.4GHz dual core)
    When I disconnect, then reconnect, I can see the CPU usage has been sitting at 100% (three different monitoring programs confirm this)
    When I close the servers, CPU usage is around 5% (background processes, etc.)
    When I disconnect, then reconnect, CPU usage has stayed around 5%.

    I'm mentioning all of this because MC has been a bit sluggish lately, and I only noticed this the other day. I should mention the usage spikes even when I'm logged in but have the window minimised. It has to stay open (though I can have things in focus in front of it) for the usage to stay normal.

    Anyone have an ideas? This one's got me stumped to be honest.

    Bump.

    I've since confirmed that it is javaw.exe that's eating the CPU. So it's either Minecraft, Java, or something else causing one of those two to bug out.

    Anyone?

    Is minecraft the only java app that's running? How many servers are you running and how much RAM is dedicated to each one? How many people online at a given time?

    The boards server CPU usage doesn't go above 25% generally, but its on a CentOS box so it could be windows related.

    Servers are the only Java thing that's running (would there be any other Windows services using it?).
    Three in total (I've tried one when troubleshooting, same thing) max. of 4-5 people across all three.

    Win7 Ultimate (overkill, I know, had a spare copy anyway), G550, 8GB RAM, 2GB heap size.

    Might be worth updating Java on the PC.
    There's been a lot of Java updates recently, mostly security related,
    but might help to narrow down problem;

    Java Runtime Environment 1.7.0.17 (64-bit)

    Java Runtime Environment 1.7.0.17 (32-bit)

    I'm on x64 and I usually install both of these files for max compatibility with my software;
    ( i.e. my screen recorder can only record 32-Bit Minecraft (AfterBurner), but I usually play using 64-Bit Java)

    If possible, try only running one server at a time to see if the problem is related to a single one or its the same problem across all three.

    If its just on a single server there's probably some map corruption or something causing the problems.

    Edit: And yeah, make sure you're running the latest version of Java.

    It's not a single server, same problem happens with any one of the three.

    Will update Java as well. It was on 1.7_15.

    Interesting development though: On advice from the MCF.net, I tried disabling remote desktop. I connected to the server via Chrome's remote desktop extension (awesome little extension by the way) and low and behold, no CPU spikes!

    Now, my only question: DAFUQ?!

    That sounds like a nice budget pc. How well does it manage as a MC server?
