Pedal power supply

One of the less glamorous types of post.

I reckon it's time to invest in a proper power supply for my pedals. As far as I know they're all standard 9v. If it makes any difference I have a Timmy, BAT Pharaoh, Copilot Polypus, TC Electronic Polytune, Hall of Fame and Flashback.

I could go for the established classic the Dunlop DC Brick.

This also looks good and it's slightly cheaper.

    Any other thoughts?

The difference is only €13 but my babies need crack

    I'm also hopelessly ignorant.

Been considering something like this too.

Thomann has a Harley Benton Powerplant for €38, but its unclear if it's 8 separate 500mA outputs or if all 8 are sharing the 500mA. If its the latter, then its just a daisy chain in a box.

It's 500mA for all 9V outputs combined with 250mA for each of the 12V. If you open the zoomed-in picture it says it on the unit. Hence the €38 I suppose.

I'll probably go for the DC Brick as lots of other people have them and seem happy.

Is there any benefit in getting isolated outputs though? The idea of paying €189 for a Pedal Power Plus II seems wrong though.

Any difference between Dunlop and MXR?

The brick is essentially a glorified daisy chain that comes with a separate 18V power supply, that's always put me off them. Heard nothing but good stuff about the Cioks and the isolated outs are really useful for certain pedals but the main thing is clean regulated power, it's also has the power supply built in so neater than the brick.

I've just ordered two of the Power Plant Juniors. Five isolated 120mA outs so more power on tap than the regular Power Plant as well as them all being isolated, have tried them before and they're super quiet with a couple of pedals I ahve that can be extremely noisy. Gonna mod the one for my pedal board with an IEC jack so the mains lead can be easily attached/detached.

BBE Supacharger would be my choice for more than 5 pedals. I have the Powerplant Jr, it's a grand yoke, isolated outputs and all, but only powers 5 pedals.

There's always one of these : eneloop pedal juice

you power it up before hand and it daisy chains power to your pedals. No power connection during performance, looks interesting.

I have a Dunlop DC brick for the last year..not a bother with it no hum hiss of noise....just a solid power supply.

Isn't there a Fueltank too? Heard good things about them

I've had the DC brick for years no issues, seems grand really

the pedal power II is cool but don't think it's worth the extra

Gonna use a daisy chain off it for my other two pedals and just make sure the ones that need isolated power have it. Even have two way daisy chain ready to go..

I have a Roland PSB-1U with 9V / 2A output power and I had 8 different pedals connected without any problems

+1 for the Powerplant junior. I took a chance a few months ago and bought one. Best 28 quid Ive spent in a while. There is no hum on the outputs (checked with a scope).

Also you can connect a heap of pedals with the daisy chain cables that come with it. Each output gives 125mA, so you can connect more than one pedal.

Eg Boss Chorus (22mA), DS1 (4mA), Compressor (11mA), Big muff (6mA), Blues driver (9mA), Boss Reverb (50mA), EQ (10mA) =112mA.... All connected to one output.
If you have any higher draw than 125mA for a single pedal you can gang 2 outputs together.
Just find out the max current draw from the manufactures websites and work out whats the best combination.
Even if you buy 2 its still only 60 quid compared to the silly money for other brands.

Somehow I missed out on the Powerplant Junior. In the end I got the Cioks. I wonder if I made the right call. I guess I can always return it if needs be though.

I did mention it a few times but let us know how the Cioks works out. I've no doubt it'll be good.

I just pulled the trigger on a powerplant jr. I've been using my tuner and a daisy chain, the independent power points will be a better fit. Good thread in fairness.
