    Hi,
I am looking at 2003 1 liter opel corsa in Dublin West. Would like to get it checked out. AA are looking at 250 which considering the car is only worth few hundred more than that i am not willing to pay out. What are my best alternative options??

    Cheers

AA inspection wouldnt be a runner on such a car for sure.
Best bet is if you know a mechanic or someone who is genuinely good with cars, to give them a few hours wages to come and have a look with you.
The problem is that you cant really take a mechanic around to look at every car you consider so you would need to have pretty much decided on the car before you get mechanic involved.
I dont think the corsa of that period were a very good car tbh but I dont know a whole pile about them.

Is it worth checking out at all?
If its worth €500 is there much risk involved?

Best bet is to get a mechanic to look at it. For that money it is unlikely to be as in new condition so you will probably have to spend a few bob on it anyway.

I wouldnt bother on a 03 Corsa, total waste of money.

The only thing you have got to be sure of is the car is owned by the person selling it.

outside of that there will be many wear and tear issues with a vehicle of that age.

If someone is looking to buy a cheap car it means they can't afford to spend much. So if the car is a dog they'll have blown €500 and still not have a car. For the sake of throwing someone €50-€80 they could save a lot of hassle and not end up with a car like this or any of the other numerous threads where people have bought lemons.

Ask the seller if it's ok to bring the car to a garage for inspection. Then pick car up and have it checked out.
Note that the seller may not be ready to part with the car for an hours or so for an inspection, or they can't take time off work to bring it themselves.
