Hi, my 12 month half-price package is up next month. I also took it out for my mother next door with a multi-room. Judging by the posts from others in the same situation, I doubt that Sky will extend the half-price offer for me. If I cancel Sky can I use the Sky box for Saorview or what do I have to get. Only got Sky installed last year so all equipment is up to date. Sorry if this has been done to death already :o

Saorview is a terrestrial service. You will need a compatible set top box and aerial for Saorview.

After cancelling Sky you will still have access to the FTA satellite channels such as BBC, ITV and Channel 4. RTÉ, TV3 and TG4 would not be available via this method

Sky box is no use for Saorview, or Saorsat for that matter. It will work for the free-to-air UK channels.

Post the make & model of your tv(s), as they might be ok for Saorview, if supplied with a terrestrial aerial feed.

That tv is on the Saorview approved list.

A suitable aerial feed will get you Saorview.

    Yes.

TV will be able to decode and display the signal. Make sure you plug the aerial into the port on the TV.
You will get only the Irish TV and radio stations with Saorview.

Mine does it with a rabbit ears aerial.

No need for a Saorview box. The digital tuner functionality is already in the tv if its a recent model < 2 years.:D

I'm in the same boat, I cancelled my Sky sub and I keep hearing/reading that I can use the equipment to get FTA channels by plugging box out, removing card and when I plug it back in I'll have free tv channels. All I'm getting is a message to insert viewing card! Is this an urban myth that I can receive free channels?

What channels are you getting the 'insert card' message on? The subscription ones will still be in the EPG.

Which channels though? You won't get RTE, TV3 etc. free, or is BBC at the top of your list?

Ah right, so what can I expect free? And will the be in the same positions in the listings as they were? I know, that's probably a daft question! What happens if I plug dish cable directly into tv??? I'm assuming nothing happens haha.

The free channels are listed here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055520627

Plugging the satellite cable into your tv won't get you anything unless the tv has an integrated satellite tuner.

Did you go into settings after taking out the sky card ect and go to new satellite connection, if its a normal sky + box without hd bbc1 should be on 101 bbc2 on 102 ect
