I installed Office 2010 on my K56CA last night, took around 30 minutes in total.

In what way is it slow? Is it just the installation process that has you worried or has the overall speed of the laptop also slowed down?

yeah it was the installation process that was bothering me. I never remember anything ever thaking that long on a computer

other stuff like the maintenance take ages too

maybe its windows 8 is the problem...

Edit: another issue is the smart gestures (2 finger scrolling etc) on the touchpad fails to start sometimes.... restart is required

Regarding the Smart gesture, you could try re-installing the driver and see if that helps.

I not the biggest fan of the touch pad on this laptop, the smart gesture has some great features and is very responsive, but i find it a small bit 'slippy' at times compared to say the plastic touch pad on my Acer.

There is something not right with this system if it takes a hour or more to install office, this is a well equipped laptop and should be able to do it in about 20 mins or so, maintenance should also not be much of a bother to it either.

The problem with a lot of pre installed laptops is that they come with loads of useless software preloaded onto the system and this has a negative effect on system performance. A lot of processes tend to be running in the background using up processor and memory resources. Its worth uninstalling these as most of them are rubbish, known affectionately as crapware. I think it is also worth your while looking for the simplified versions of drivers for your system for wifi, printers and any other device that may be taking up loads of space. wifi drivers from manufactures then to be anormous applications with a fancy interface that effectively don't do anything special. In this case its worth letting windows manage your wireless. Worth Googling for info in this area.

All that being said, for a laptop with your specs, you should not be seeing the detrimental performance that you are getting in any case, so I suspecting something more sinister is happening, something in the line of a virus, malware or indeed a conflicting program
