    Hi guys,

Wondering if someone can help me out on this. I've been unemployed since I finished college in May 2011. Was on Jobseekers Allowance until May 2012 when I started a JobBridge internship which I finished 3 weeks ago, so I'm now back on Jobseekers allowance.

Myself and my boyfriend want to move in together and are tired waiting for me to find work (with the HSE recruitment freeze ongoing it may not be any time soon), but I'm not sure if I would be able to keep my jobseekers allowance if we move in together. My local office said they wouldn't be able to tell me until I had a means test-but I don't want to go ahead with the move until I know I'd still have my own income. I've looked at citizensinformation etc. but can't really make head nor tail of what it says. My boyfriend earns about 28,000euro gross pay. Anyone have any ideas if I'd still be entitled??

From Citizens Information details, I think you would be.

The maximum entitlement you would have as a couple is approx. €312 for state benefits

The means test takes daily earnings after tax for your bf which is 89.6 or 448 euro and then deducts a maximum of 60 euro from that. which leaves it at €388. You then get 60% of that figure which is €232.80 so you'd be entitled to roughly €80 per week if I've done my calculations right.

So I would be going from €188 per week to €80? Well that's a no goer then. I couldn't expect him to support me entirely.

Yeah I think so from what I worked out, you can do it yourself if you read through the link I posted, and do the calculations.

I might be wrong mind, but you definitely wouldn't be keeping the full €188

    You can deduct:
    PRSI
    Union Dues
    Pension
    AVCs
from your BF gross weekly wage. Then deduct €60. then get 60% of that. then deduct that from €312. Thats how much JSA you would get.
