Started some Veg and Bedding plants early this year January and Feb, Under lights Cool Whites and a Blue&Red Lamp with underneath heating. But found the Growth to be Slower compared to normal growing (Cabbage/Pansy/Lobelia.)

Have the lights under a timer 16 hours on 8 off. to mimic long days... I wonder am i doing right?

Anyone have thoughts on how long to have artificial lights on/off for seedlings?

Hi, I keep mine on for 7-8 hours. Are they close to the lights? What wattage are the bulbs? I use lights but am no expert. Surprised you think they are growing slower. I use a 5 ft twin tube fixture with 60 watt bulbs.

Twin tubes also 5ft cool white am sure 36W and a LED red/Blue bulb (off hand can't remember the wattage held over the trays about 3-4 inches.

The brassicas are still at first true leaf stage but about 1-2 inches tall getting lanky ... not pale looking.... Are the lights too high or not strong enough?

All contained in box white polystyrene insulation around sides top etc on inside

Figured I try something New ... my Misses is going mad.. ESB bills :-) so better get it right !
