I have a feeling the flywheel on my passat might need changing, only heard noise today when clutching, didn't hear it then for ages but seems to be sound when driving esp in first or second gear, mechanic told me before that flywheel mighty need to be replaced, is it an expensive job?

Depends where you go. What year is the Passat? You'd be advised to replace the Clutch, Flywheel and Cylinder Bearing.

Main stealers are circa €1,200. http://www.blackwatermotors.ie/UserFiles/file/FERMOY%20MENU%20PRICING%20(1).pdf

A good indie or VW specialist would be cheaper. George Dalton, of this forum (a VW specialist), is €750 I think.

You'd be mad to go to the main dealer IMO.

On a 1.9TDI 5 speed you are looking at approx €750 fitted for a replacement dual mass flywheel or €650 for a cheap brand solid flywheel conversion.
