    Hello,

Looking at this car tomorrow and was wondering if you knomledable folk could give me some pointers on what to look out for. They are a nice looking car but are they reliable and is it worth the price?
I know the head gasket is a common problem with these and he said he replaced it himself, can i just take his word for it? Can they go very often?
    Any opinions much appreciated:)

why would you buy a car with a dent in the back? unless you couldn't give a fluck about cars that is.

There are a million and one cars for sale private and at dealers, don't see why anyone should accept that., and its over priced.

Headgaskets are a well known problem in them. A modified gasket and kit was obtainable but the company supplying them are gone into administration so im not sure if they can still be got elsewhere.

Earlier cars were fitted with peugeot gearboxes and these can wear out. Later cars from around 03 on were fitted with ford gearboxes and these are supposed to be much better than the pug box.

Later cars were fitted with a pektron scu. This controls the cars electrics and has a tendancy to fail causing some electrics in the car to act irratically or not work at all, e.g a window not working or the horn not working..etc. It usually fails due to cheap internal components or water ingress from the bulkhead to which it's mounted. If the key fob is oval and has 3 bottons with the boot release, it has this unit. The older more reliable lucas sysrem has just two buttons on the fob with no boot release and is more square in shape.

Starter motors can give issues aswell in these cars and engines can get tappety over time but this is more of an annoyance than an issue.

Apart from these issues that they also rust around the windscreen and around the sunroof where fitted.

Tbh you could buy a better more dependable car for 15 hundred euro imo.
