Silkdip. Teat spray. Expensive but cell count generally under 100. Only ever get 1 or 2 cases of mastitisif even, any year. In harsh conditions teat condition can suffer a little due to the iodine.
Had a guy in selling the Deosan foam spray. Thinking of giving it a go. You can prespray with it if you want. Like the idea of that

Ill vouch 100% for deosan teat foam,I was using silk dip with good results but a rep from arrabawn called with a guy from deosan and i decided to change.Teat condition has improved significantly and cell count so far this spring is averaging 88.Silk dip ws and is a good product but in conditions like last summer and praticuraly where cows are inside on cubicles teat condition can suffer a bit.I buy it in 200 ltr barells and it costs about 435 i think. One product id never use again is lactospray. It i lactic based and is meant to act like an exfoliator but it peels layers of skin off cows teats and subsequently lead to a chronic cellcount issue for me which i wouldnt traditionaly have

might be worth your time to price it at cahl ... a good bit cheaper than the local arrabawn store for the drums anyhow

Im using it a few years now, just in the winter while they're indoors. Twas great at the start but i think my bugs are getting used to it now.
Im getting more mastitis these days. Used mastocide for one winter but after a few months they started to get a really bad mastitis so im back on the udder gold now.

Used to use a basic iodine based dip before (can't remember the name), we have a good few SCC problems, but I'll put alot of that down to hmm management issues! Anyways the osmonds sales rep sold me some of this afew months back http://www.osmonds.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=266&Itemid=331 , with the usual promise that the scc would drop to 100k etc etc. Mixed enough results 2bh, some of the cows certainly do have cracked teats now which I'm treating. Hard to know if its the dip causing it. SCC has been rollercoasting around still, but as I said before, I'll blame that on ourselves.

Sorry to be digging up an old thread but just wondering which post milking teat dip people are using. Im using silkdip at the moment but Co-op manager says deosan is much better just curious what people think?

virolac, are you having problems? why do you want to change?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 267 ✭✭mickey1985

He was saying to move away from iodine as it dries out teats and that id get better performance from deosan whether that is true or not

Pre and post with virolac here
    wipe off
    scc 88 last collection

If iodine is working okay stick with it
add some glycerine 1/2l in 5l water
    will really soften up teats

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 267 ✭✭mickey1985

Thanks for advice. I only dip post milking. Do you pre dip all the time or just when the cows are inside. 88k is very impressive SCC.

do you pre foam, spray or dip?

is is concentrated or ready to use - have been told use RTU as water quality wont be the same as the factory?

do you pre strip too? nice to be under 200 but under 100 is a new challenge.

Using GEA Salvospray pre and post here - lactic acid based getting on ok but think chlorhexidine would probably be kinder to teats but not as much of a kill,

Have been using a barrier dip like sensodip or mastocide last few months when on cubicles too, its grand but slows routine especially when milking takes longer with heifers and sorting milk.

    It's concentrate make up yourself
    not stripping
Only on a 6 unit have loads of time.
