    Howaya

Bought a car last month but never got the ownership changed. Owner said it was sent, but checked the motor tax website and no changes listed / nothing received by post.

Can I do anything if he doesn't sort it?

Drive through the M50 toll 100 times.

Do a top speed run past as many go safe vans as possible.

That should get the skates underneath him :D

Seriously though i'm not sure how much can be done in this situation. It's a strange one as it's totally in the sellers interest to get the car out of his name ASAP

If you have proof of purchase, go to your local court and swear an affidavit(FOC). I,m not sure which form you need, DOE website will clarify.

This happened to me, there's a form to fill out and you have to get the chassis number checked by a garage and a commissioner of oaths will have to sign it, (cost me a tenner) It takes a while but you do get the log book after a while (and in my case get the original sent to me after 4 months.

ˆˆˆˆˆˆˆˆˆˆThis is exactly what you need to do.ˆˆˆˆˆˆˆˆˆˆ

The PC (peace commissioner) will probably charge 50 euro or so

Even solicitors (most of whom are Commissioners for Oaths) don't charge that much for a signature. Peace Commissioners are just ordinary folk (though typically with big egos), can't see them charging that much, if anything.

They're actually not supposed to charge for their signature.....

Peace Commissioners are honorary appointments and there is no remuneration or financial compensation by way of fees or expenses for their services.

It's FOC in your local courthouse.

    Update:

So I ended up getting the logbook off the owner [who said he sent it, but remarkably had the same one  ]

I sent it myself, registered, and it was delivered last week, but theres still no update of a change on Motortax.ie

Should it take a while to show up there?

Yeah for some reason it doesn't show up right away, sometimes it'll take a week.
    Ring Shannon and ask http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/MotorTax/ChangeofOwnership/
