Great race this, definitely recommend. Same day as K club 10k but I'll do this one instead. Looking forward to it.

Thats for that PCONN. We actually overlooked the K Club when setting the date. I like the K Club but feel guilty about accepting a PB on it cos it is short by 100m+.

Great value for €15 and very well organised, closed roads, tshirt, and a bit of nosebag after.

also meant to say, the tshirt I got last year was top class too. one of the only ones I still wear (dundalk 10k ones are crap).
Might register this year anyway just to get the tshirt :p

Mmmm.. Looking at this race as a "possible". Is it worth the journey up the motorway? On runireland it says the proceeds are going to SOSAD. How many is likely to do it? I like a crowd, it helps carry me on.

Race is definitely worth the journey. Dublin is only 45-50 mins to Dundalk. Take Junction 17 and start line 2 mins away with lots of free parking. Fast accurate 5k course on closed roads. Last year there was 500 in the race. Link to results is above which shows the race caters for everybody from club runner to people who want to enjoy the experience. We are expecting similar and probaly greater numbers this year so there will be plenty of people to "carry you on". All proceeds after expenses go to the nominated charity which this year is SOSAD. Last years proceeds were donated to Simon Community. I cannot stress enough that this is "not" a commercial race. The course is certified by Athletics Ireland and an official AI race permit has been granted for the event.
It is a 5K race that is dedicated to the memory of Patsy Kelly who ran with the North East Runners and was a member of Clan Na Gael. Hope to see you there on the day and you will be well looked after with refreshments after the race.

That is good advice for all circumstances, whether you have a race the day afterwards or not.

It will be the last year that the Harp Lager brewery will be open for the race, unfortunately, so any hopes of a return to the days of a train load of BHAA Dubs descending on Dundalk for a day on the drink courtesy of Harp Lager are over. Pity. I can remember for some reason the BHAA 4 mile race was always in sweltering heat wave conditions. All the finishers would be completely dehydrated and would pile into either the school hall or the brewery and completely upend themselves with free harp and then stagger onto the train at 4 o clock bananas.

    Technical T-Shirts are now ready.
Can't seem to be able to put image on this so if you would like to see it, images are available on either the Patsy Kelly 5K or North East Runners facebook page.

saw that myself on the FB earlier.
I am thinking i will sign up for it anyway, even though I wont be there. The tshirt alone is worth the €15 and like supporting local events. Ill get someone to collect it for me maybe

niallg - seen the t shirt, love it. now officially signed up. I will keep an eye out on that facebook page, there seems to be loads going on there.

    See you on the 20th.

Thanks for that. There will be a collection night (numbers, t-shirt, chip etc.) for locals on the week of the race to ease the congestion on race day. You can pick up yours on the day no problem. Good luck. We will watch out for the Dub with a can of Harp.

Club team prizes announced for the Race. First and second only. First team €100, second team €60. Male and female. We had competitors from Dunshaughlin AC, Raheny AC, Star of the Sea, Dunleer AC and Drogheda & District AC. Would love to see a good competitive team race. The local GAA fraternity might land to try and prove Jerry Kiernan wrong. We had an unidentified guy in a Louth jersey arrive on the start line last year about 20 secs before the start asking who he can give his €15 to. He was allowed in. He hit the first downhill half mile in the lead group and then proved JK had a point (in this instance).

Is that elevation right? Looks like you've to run up a mountain in the last kilometre. It goes from 19m at 4km to 82m before 5km

4 to a team. No mixed teams. Would love if JK would come and run the race. Maybe he reads this.

That elevation does not look right and can't be right. The last Kilometer is the same as the first Kilometer and is downhill. Try this one http://connect.garmin.com/activity/166740862

Race day on Saturday week. Due to some people having problems registering through Run Ireland and also due to the amount of manual entries being received we are holding a second registration day this Saturday 13th April 2013. Race day information will be posted both here and on the facebook page.
