Ok I did a quick search and couldnt any other threads about this. And the website was vague at best.

But would I be right in understanding, that if a garage is Simi backed then it pretty much means they are trustworthy.... and arent going to sell you a lemon to make a quick buck. Or if something goes wrong they wont try and squirm out of fixing it (whilst under warranty of course)?

Plenty of trustworthy members I'm sure but the SIMI are nothing but a lobby group for the motor industry.

Representing the views of the motor industry to the government, state bodies, the media and the motoring public.

    They represent themselves ;)

You would be wrong on all counts.

They are nothing but a lobby group for the motor industry.
Yep. A load of crap. Simi will side with their member and will be of no use to you in a dispute.
Simi will take all comers too so membership is no guide to how good or bad they are.

Simi are a useless - they are to the motor industry what the vintners association is to the drinks industry, they are self serving.

Oh. Thats not the answer I was expecting....

Well heres the thing. Donedeal seem to make a song and dance about highlighting simi dealers... and then they explain why with:
Membership of the Society requires companies to operate to defined standards of business ethics and integrity when dealing with consumers.
    Each member signs up to a Code of Ethics, which is as follows;
    • Operate their business in accordance with the highest standards of ethical conduct.
    • Meet their customers’ needs in a professional manner.
    • Advertise their products in a positive, factual and informative manner.
    • Provide knowledgeable and trained personnel to ensure efficient quality customer service.
    • Upon request, provide written estimates of and details of service to be performed.
    • Resolve misunderstandings in a prompt and courteous manner, through, if appropriate, the SIMI Standards Tribunal

That all sounds great. Id definitely pay that bit extra knowing that I was working with decent people.

But of course as you highlighted... (and what my main fear was/is). Whats on paper doesnt always hold true in the real world.

From this thread and your other thread it sounds like you are getting yourself into a tizzy over buying a car, what's the point ?

    My advice ..

Disregard most of the advice you have probably received from bar stool experts such as UK cars are bad and not to be touched. Take your time,do your research on any particular car you settle on - what to look, common, faults for etc, bring a competent mechanic with you to look at the car - and above all trust your gut instinct.

Has the SIMI appointed a new Public Relations Consultant?

If thats directed at me, well I just copy and pasted what donedeal tells everybody.

I just want to know if that quote actually holds true in the real world. But going on some of the replies here I guess it doesnt.

Let me be more direct then.

Are you employed by or a member of the SIMI?
