ARMA III Build

Looking for a recommendation for a build that will run ARMA 3 on full settings.
Looking for as cheap as possible. No need for monitor or peripherals.
Preferably an ssd, doesnt have to be larger, just enough for the OS which i have a copy of and probably a hdd for games, doesnt have to be too large.
Looking for it on a budget so as cheap as possible without compromising on performance while running at highest settings. Doesnt have to be future proof with graphics as it is being built mainly for this game

    Appreciate the help

    How much of a budget?

I went as cheap as possible on everything I think:

The game isn't out yet so it's hard to say what specs you will need to run it at full settings. however if Arma 2 is anything to go by then you will need a high end system to run it at full settings. I'm thinking a 7870 might struggle with this.

Arma 2 was horribly optimised though so it might be ok.

I know it's only recommended settings but here they are:

That might handle the game on low settings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,856 ✭✭✭MiskyBoyy

You think the build I chose above from HWVS would only handle Arma 3 on low settings?

    No, haha I hope not.

I meant the recommended specs above.

    Lol I was wondering!

Yeah those are just the minimum & recommended settings Arma supplied as seen @ http://www.arma3.com/buy

Always wondered that is the recommended settings. Are they recommending those settings to run the game on low, medium or high?

    Anyone know?

if its anything like arma 2 then the recommended specs will be okay somewhere between medium and high but not on the very highest settings

Having the game on SSD would be best. SSD brought big improvement to ARMA II.

It depends. They would class 30fps as a good playable frame rate when it's really the bare minimum. Ideally you want 60fps. I think that recommend spec would be low-med and still not have a solid 60 fps.

I guess I would have to wait till release then. This is for a friend, personally I have a gtx680 and an overclocked i5 and 16gb of ram. Will wait for release and post back here then.

Probably start to get a rough ballpark idea of the required specs to hit maximum once it goes into Alpha later this month, although of course there is likely to be significantly performance improvements between then and the retail release.

Unless he has something else to be playing in the meantime though might as well wait as long as possible :)

    Downloaded it last night
On my core i5 2500k oc4.4ghz , ati6870 , and 8 gigs of ram, game runs on high details without aa and vsync on, pretty smooth in 1080p.

Anyone any ideas what settings I could run it at if they have similar setups to mine on 3 1920*1200?
    Specs are:
3570k @ 4.6ghz (upgrading to a 3930k/rampage iv extreme at the end of the month)
    32gb ram
    2* 7970's 1125/1575
Hoping can run it at pretty close to max as have been looking forward to this game for a while now and dont want to have to try another card :)

It's not your setup but it's an indication as to what you might need here. I hope it's of some use to you.

You can pay pretty much anything for a decent pc depending on how far you wanna go. How much, if you had the money, would you be willing to spend? Even a rough estimate.

A very rushed build to give you an idea. The board could be changed to a z77 mobo meaning you could overclock if you like. The CPU could be changed to a 7950 adding about €80 more. The CPU could be changed to an I5 3570k meaning it is capable of being overclocked. An SSD could also be thrown in there in order to speed up boot times.

    Item|Price
    BitFenix Merc Alpha|€31.91
    Super-Flower SF450P14XE Golden Green Pro 80plus gold|€63.92

I got the prices from this German site here. Nearly everyone here including myself has used it. The build I gave you is far better than the minimum requirements. Yes you can. For instance you can have an Intel CPU and an AMD graphics card. Be careful when choosing a motherboard though. Some can only be used with AMD processors and some only with Intel. Don't worry about asking questions. Ask away. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. :D

Thanks was wondering :D am well that is the recommended settings for arma3 .. if the build you gave me is better do you think if i build a computer with the recommended game settings for arma3 that it would cost me less ? :)

Just what I'd probably get for that budget:

    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W - €42.87

    8GB-Kit Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz CL9 - €49.29

    Windows 7 Home Premium - €81.38

    Samsung DVD-RW Drive - €16.93

    3R Systems Design Gehäuse R490 Schwarz - €28.77

    Seagate Barracuda 7200 1000GB, SATA 6Gb/s - €58.79

    Intel Core i5-3470 Box, LGA1155 - €166.42

    LG Flatron E2342T

    ASRock H77 Pro4, Socket 1155, ATX - €74.54

    XFX Radeon HD 7850 860M Core Edition, 2GB - €167.63

    Delivery - €18.99

    Total - €833.43

Arma 3 isn't out until September/October sometime I think. The Beta is out in June, I think that's what you were referring to was it?

Probably not high to ultra with decent FPS. You could probably, this is just speculation, run it with decent FPS at low to medium.

I know it's not Arma 3 but here's a similar system running the graphically demanding Battlefield 3: (Watch in HD)

It's also good to note that Arma 3 is a fraction less graphically demanding than Arma 2 as the game engine is far better optimized.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Sarz91

Arma III looks a but better in terms of optimization but to honest it's a bit disheartening seeing this guy using a Titan and getting around 19 fps on ultra. I guess he did load in a sh** load of characters and objects though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,856 ✭✭✭MiskyBoyy

You have to remember that this is an Alpha Beta too and the engine isn't going to be fully optimized, people are reporting FPS drops which shouldn't happen in the final game.

Here is another similar build playing Arma 3 Alpha Beta on a 7870 which you can get instead of the 7850 I used in the build above for an extra €22:

Alternative AMD based build but with the strong Royalking 7950 and a better IPS panel monitor that's well worth the extra €15.

    Item|Price
    MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SB-Version Englisch|€81.38
AMD FX-6300 Prozessor, Boxed, Sockel AM3+|€121.53
    Club 3D Radeon HD 7950 royalKing, 3GB GDDR5, AMD Radeon HD 7950, PCI- Express|€278.64
    Seagate Barracuda 7200 1000GB, SATA 6Gb/s|€58.79
    Sharkoon Vaya schwarz, ohne Netzteil|€25.57
    2 x ARCTIC COOLING ARCTIC F12|€7.22
    Samsung SH-224BB bare schwarz|€16.93
    LG Flatron IPS234V|€144.56
    ASRock 970DE3/U3S3, AM3+, ATX|€54.59
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€38.44
    Zalman ZM500-GS Netzteil - 500Watt|€36.25
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€882.89

Over budget but I squeezed as much as I could to get the 7950 in there. It all depends on what settings you will be happy to play at. There's upgrade and overclocking options for this build down the line.

thanks man :) i cant seem to find them on this sight http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware see i want to do a pay monthly payment so i can play it while i pay :L thats how much i want a new pc :D if ye have any sight that do the buy now pay later payment option for ireland feel free to post it lol :):D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,856 ✭✭✭MiskyBoyy

I don't think it's as easy as that. As far as I know, Scan don't provide the financing options to Irish customers & I'm not aware of any that do apart from maybe Dell.ie in which you're limited to a pc you don't really build yourself.

You should do what I did, just choose the parts you want and then order them bit by bit when you can afford them, best to do on Amazon.co.uk as you get free shipping on most things.

Crossfire is not working so far :(

Put the cards and CPU back to stock for testing

Edit: 12fps was the lowest fps with game maxed out on 3 screens with one card.

Hoping for playable rates with better driver support and crossfire enabled and an overclocked 3930K at the end of the month :).

What build would be run this game with high settings for 650-700 euro for just the computer and a copy of windows 7. No peripherals needed
