Might be heading to UL next year, was looking for some club to join as the college team is only a social club. I know Garryowen have a massive panel so I am kinda ruling them out, anyone with any suggestions to which club to join?

UL Bohs are based in Annacotty which is right out by the uni so they're an option for you.

    http://www.ulbohs.com/

On the map below they're on Mulcair Drive
    http://maps.google.ie/maps?q=mulcair+drive&hl=en&ll=52.671165,-8.530262&spn=0.007065,0.021136&sll=52.672459,-8.532579&sspn=0.003533,0.010568&hnear=Mulcair+Dr,+County+Limerick&t=m&z=16

Dave Kilcoyne, Barry Murphy, and Keith Matthews would all have been recent players for the Senior team and the U20's when I was there were pretty handy. They've a firsts team that plays in the AIL 1 (I think), a seconds team, and a thirds team. The first and the seconds would be more serious and from memory tended to train together.

You'll meet a few UL students who wouldn't be from Limerick playing for their various teams too.

Some clubs dont field at 19s. Depends on the season and how much the club is affected by the schools panels.
Take this as an example. Shannon and St Marys combined in the 10/11 and 11/12 seasons reaching a munster semi final in 10/11 and winning the all ireland in 11/12 yet this season they couldnt field a side in the 19s league.
Young Munster are strong most years. Garryowen dont always have a massive squad.
UL Bohs dont generally field a 19s team(havent fielded for a few seasons).
    Id recommend Young Munster

Id advise you to play for bohs, because it'll help you integrate into the university more. Also playing 21s with alot of rep or academy players would be hugely beneficial for your own rugby development. If you went to Garryowen theres no problem that theres a big squad. You should see that as a challenge and the competition should be able to bring out your best

bohs hav'nt fielded an u19 team in ages, young munster combined with ennis this year but struggled, garryowen were resonably successful this year at u19 getting to the q finals of munster, shannon needed to partner with someone this season having half of last years all-ireland winning team underage, but decided against it,next season should have u19
most of the shannon guys either go to UL or LIT integration would be no problem, also next years u21 looks like being a super side...www.shannonrfc.com

Thanks for the response lads.. Yeah I am seriously considering Bohs (if they have a team) or Shannon .. Bohs would be ideal considering the pitch is so near the college.. I ll give it time yet.. Id love to get involved in any u21 set up in the next few years..

Rare enough to see 19s playing for Bohs or Shannons 21s as they are usually very strong at 21s level.
Unless you are very good and capable of playing 21s maybe give bohs a miss as you could spend a good period on the sidelines
I know i recommended Munsters earlier but you could also look at Thomond. They always have alright 19s sides and you could play 21s with them as well.

What I think I'll do is play 19s with Shannon or Bohs , see where i stand at the end of the year. If I can't get a look in with the 21s, I ll head to a smaller club like Richmond or Thomand.. Do you have any idea when the clubs usually start training for the new season?

If you do go to UL just join the college rugby team, Bohs generally recruit some players for their u-19 team there

Bohs generally dont field at under 19s. Find out for definate before you sign with any club if they will be definately fielding at under 19s next season.
Below is the teams in Limerick who fielded at 19s since the 09/10 season you will see some clubs have fielded every season while others have not. Best off talking to the clubs that fielded every season as obviously they are most likely to be fielding at 19s next season
    2012/2013
    Young Munster, Bruff
    Garryowen, Thomond
    2011/2012
    Shannon-StMarys, Garryowen, Young Munster
    Old Crescent
    2010/2011
    Garryowen, Munsters, Crescent,
    Shannon-St Marys, Thomond, Bruff
    2009/2010
    Bohs, Thomond, Shannon, Young Munster

Bohs have tried that the past few seasons yet still couldnt field in the north munster youths league at 19s level after looking for players in the college.
Chabals Beard the College team doesnt play too often though be warned. You will not have a huge number of games if you just play with the college unless you make the college senior team and play freshers and senior

i play for the college team, we play a fair few matches between the tournie waterford organises in semester 1, the league, the 7s intervarsities and our colours match

Freshers have a strong year this year, AI semi final in a few weeks. Alot of them play senior also since alot of seniors have TP, Co-op etc

Ha was probably a fairly accurate description for a long time.

Its a good standard, but with most college teams you have players who are good enough for AIL and lads picking up the game only now so it takes a few weeks to settle. We play in the top division at senior and fresher, freshers as I said above have an AI semi final in a few weeks

Having played that level. Its only an alright standard.
You would be better off joining a club and concentrating on playing under 19 and if you are good enough under 21 than concentrating on the college teams.
Again go to a club that will def be fielding teams at both 19s and 21s like Thomond, Young Munster and you will get plenty of games

from season to season there are no def on fielding an u19s in limerick ,this year YM would not have had a team without ennis and YM had the minority of players ,thomond had help from richmond and were very weak..if shannon are putting out a team go with them, they usually make a good fist of it
