Duo+ or SOLO2 or Quad?

As the subject line alludes to, I can't decide what box to go for, I've to get a box for a friend and I'm going to give them my GigaBlue UE from the bedroom, I'm going to replace it with 1 of the boxes mentioned about, I can't decide which 1 to get though.

The box is going to be in the bedroom where I have 1 satellite and 1 Saorview feed, I have an Ultimo in the living room that's the main box in the house.

I like Giga's boxes and I like VU+ boxes as well, I'm liking the idea of the Quad cause of the inbuilt Saorview tuner but I could just get a USB tuner to do the same thing as well. I like the idea of getting a box that's overpowered that I can play with in my spare time, so being overpowered isn't an issue for me.

    Any opinions greatly appreciated.

I have solo 2 and can vouch its a good little box although fixed tuners a bit of a setback IMO. Quad still have not sorted dvbs tuners yet and still no sign yet. Duo2 seems also a few months away.
Ps I have an ultimo going cheap in adverts if you are after another one :-)

The ultimo is too big for the bedroom, the box will be resting of top of the TV.

Best of luck with the sale

Ah sorry did not read post properly, as its for the bedroom would highly recommend the solo2. It's small but very very quick!

I went for the Solo2, must pick up a DVB-T stick for it now.

Just be careful as there are reports of a lot of models not supported on the solo 2 yet. I'm sure they will in time. At mo I know definitely the sundtek media pro is supported and a couple of others which I can't think of off top of head at min.
But you will definitely not be disappointed in solo 2 as imo it's the best receiver since the ultimo and extremely quick

The speed is what sealed it for me, I rarely watch TV in the bedroom but I definitely don't want to be waiting ages for a box to turn on, the QBox Mini was a pain for that

Where did you buy the solo2 from? I see satboxes.ie has it for €339.

I got it from Satboxes, couldn't recommend them highly enough, ordered it yesterday and it arrived today, real top class service.

As for the box itself, wow, just wow, the thing is lightening quick, I've setup a fair few boxes down through the years and I'm used to certain things taking a while (Bouquets, installing plugins, opening stuff), this thing really does fly. I'd a 500Gb 2.5" hard drive lying around as well as a 32Gb usb key so I've those in it now, I was worried about the noise off it, the thing is almost silent, this was a big issue for me cause of the fact that it'll be in the bedroom, helps that I've the hard drive set to shut down after 5 minutes.

Thanks Clareman, now I just have to justify it to the other half!

I've the remote setup now to control the TV as well. There's some small differences with the web interface as well, nothing major, struggling to get the EPG to work on restart, but I've 1channel and Project Valerie setup and work along with connections to my server, great piece of kit :)

Technomate have launched the 2T OE and the TWIN OE both have lots of DDR2 Ram and the same Processor, both are cheaper than the VU Solo 2, the 2T OE takes a 2.5inch Drive and the TWIN OE takes a 3.5inch Drive.
