XS Direct Insurance- anybody else using them?

Got a quote of €1,059 'Fully Comp' with an excess of €1,000 on a Nissan 350z. 27 year old male. zero penalty points.

I am taking out a new policy, and the 350z would prospectively be my second car, so my NCB is effectively nil. My current policy on the GT with Liberty has a 7 year NCB discount applied. I thought about swapping the policies around, using my NCB on the 350z and start a completely new policy on the GT but it seems like a lot of hassle. (Liberty said they won't insure me on the Z as i'm under 30).

From reading a few threads on XS direct it appears that the 'fully comprehensive' cover is not worth the paper is written on. Has anybody any feedback?

I looked at Britton as well, but there is a compulsory excess of €3,000. Not going with that.

Are you sure you can't use your NCB for taking out another policy? Normally doesn't matter what car you use it against.

Just request a copy of the ncb letter if you don't have it and tell them whoever is quoting you have 7 years claims free. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Don't have any experience with xl, never used them myself.

I'd check around all the main insurers you should get a decent quote with your record.

Cant use bonus on more than one car unless the insurer accepts mirroring(very few do)
Wrt XS Direct, sure my brother is insured on them on my recommendation as they were the cheapest considering he had a large claim for 35 k a while ago, the 1000 or more excess is like driving with your wallet on the bonnet with 1+k in it according to a previous poster. Otherwise its fine, basically dont crash and youll be ok;)

The excess does not apply to 3rd party claims.

It only applies to fire, theft and comp claims.

Thanks for the replies folks- very informative.

I know that Liberty do mirror policies- an agent went to the trouble of explaining it all to me but then closed the conversation saying they won't mirror it on the 350z. I wonder would talking to somebody more senior help the situation?

Lomb- I'll take your advice and try not the crash :D That insurance set up seems to be pretty dodge.

Did some reading on the XS Direct website:

"Do I have to pay for bumps and scrapes myself?
Yes, but every driver on the road does that anyway rather than losing their bonus. All we’ve done is make everything transparent and allow drivers that get penalised heavily by the bonus system by other Insurance Companies, start with us with a clean slate."

"Are there approved garages for repairs?
No, we leave that up to customers. However, you must provide a written estimate for us to approve before any repairs can begin. We also encourage customers to haggle with their garage; as our product has a High Excess, if might end up saving YOU money."

"Is there a minimum car value XS Direct will insure?
Yes, because we have a high excess, drivers with cars under €5,000 in value or cars over 10 years old less than €10,000 in value are not suitable for this type of policy. We would recommend a Third Party Fire & Theft policy for cars of that value. So you will need to contact another Insurance company for that."

"Do penalty points affect my premium?
No. We have seen no evidence that penalty points indicate a greater risk. In the UK, the experience has been that as drivers get penalty points, they drive more safely. So for the moment our intention is not to load for penalty points."
