    Hi all,

Just awaiting confirmation on car finance. Hoping to purchase a 2008 1.4 passat tsi. Does anyone have any experience with this car?

Test drove it yesterday, fell in love with it!

    Thanks!

I have one, albeit a 2011. I really like it, comfy, solid and practical. 7.5l per 100.

Do you have a link to the car?

    Hopefully that works!

I'm dying to get everything passed to buy it! Fingers crossed!

Baseline Passats are nasty IMO. I'd hold out for a better spec if I were you.

Agreed. OP, sounds like you are under a new car spell, if you can be patient and hold out for a Comfortline they feel far more special than the Trendline which is a very bleak place.

Yeah I possibly am! I just really need a new car. I've had it 7 years now, the drivers side of the floor is saturated, with mold growing on the floor from th damp! :(

Keep fit windows on a 08 car are pretty unacceptable tbh. I love how they tried to hide it by pushing the passenger seat back.

Bought an 08 1.4 tsi myself the end of January and find it really comfortable to drive. Really happy with it.

The one you linked looks a little pricey got mine for below 10K through a dealer with similar mileage 127,000km's on the clock and Nct till June 2014.

Your car's 127,000km is not similar mileage to the advertised car's 90,000km, it is in fact 41% more mileage which is pretty significant.

Having said that I do agree with you that the one in the link above is a little on the expensive side for a base model, even with the relatively low mileage.

I was offered €3500 on my 05 car as a trade in. Dya reckon I could haggle much off the passat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,302 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

You won't haggle much off if trading in and imo the Passat seems overpriced for what it is.

Keep looking and sell your 05 privately, you will get much more car for your money.

Remember you are gonna be stuck with what you buy for afew years so don't leave room for regret

ive decided not to go with the passat.. have heard a few bad things from people, ie the handbrake failing etc.

a friend told me his passat spent more time in the garage than in his possesion!

So boardsies, im hoping someone can help me! I'm looking for something somilar. I was thinking of the avensis?

    thanks!

An 08 Passat is a pretty reliable car to be honest OP. The issues with the electronic parking brake mainly affected the 2005-2007 cars and were largely resolved by 2008. Of course they have their own specific issues but so does every car. The fact is if you believed every horror story you heard from bar stool experts you would be afraid to buy any make or model of car. What I always advise people to do is shop around with an open mind, test drive various makes and models and then buy the one that you like best, because if there is one thing worse than spending money on car repairs it is spending money repairing a car that you don't even enjoy driving/owning!
