    Hi,

Myself and my husband want to take our two young daughters on a long weekend trip in July involving travelling on the Stenaline (using the Tesco vouchers). The main part of the trip will be the travelling on the boat as this would be very exciting for our 4 year old. From looking at the website it seems we can really only travel to Holyhead (from Dublin).

Is there any nice towns/village neat Holyhead that would be nice for a wee family break with 2 small children?

    Thanks,Caroline

snap caroline! we travel every july to uk with our tesco vouchers, but we go rosslare to pembroke with irish ferries. 4 hours on the boat, our kids love it (they are 6 and 5 this year). small play area when the kids can play safely, plus a tv area with dvds shown during the crossing. so relaxing on the boat compared to airports. it takes 1hour50mins from dublin to rosslare, not sure if you are going from donegal. we stay in weston super mare, loads of little towns with beaches/fun fares in the south west. not much in holyhead itself...maybe a bit of research around north of wales or someone on her could suggest something

Thanks for the reply Jocelynel your holiday sounds like just what we are looking for and the longer journey on the boat the better-our daughter will be 5 by then so she'll love it and look forward to that the most!
Our other daughter will be 1 so don't have to worry about her preferences too much:P

Is Weston Super Mare far from Pembroke?

Myself and my husband are both from Donegal but living in Dublin so Rosslare would be handy for us too!

    Thanks again!

    hi caroline,
weston super mare takes 2hours45minutes...is that too far for you. we stay in the premier inn, the one 5 minutes outside the town. there is a new premier inn on the sea front that opened in october, but it doesn't have parking

    http://www.premierinn.com/en/checkHotel/WESPAV/weston-super-mare-east-a370

you've got the beach, pier, donkeys, bouncy castles and nice just to stroll along the sea front with bag of chips and icecreams for the little ones

hubby is from weston, just asked him if there was anywhere nearer and he said barry island...maybe google that, i've not been there...

You'll do well to find a nicer place than Portmeirion on these islands./

It might not be suitable to spend the whole weekend there but its definitely worth a day trip.

If you decide to travel into Pembroke. Check out Tenby.
It's a beautiful place and only 15 min drive from Pembroke ferry port. Although you would have a long drive in Ireland its a very short spin on the other side.
Stenna line and Irish ferries do package holidays to Haven in Tenby very reasonable prices.
I read some bad reviews before I went but our accommodation was spotless, lovely pool, indoor and outdoor.
Tenby town is beautiful, your also right beside oak wood, a big water park (can't remember the name) dinosaur park, folly farm to name but a few.

Stena Line does not go to Pembrooke and if you have Tesco Stena Line vouchers they are not valid on Irish Ferries. However Stena Line does sail from Rosslare to Fishguard. Weston-super-Mare is around 3 hours from Fishguard port. Stena have a much better onboard entertainment for children they even during the summer and half terms have children's entertainers on board. My nice loved them last time we were traveled with them.

Another place you might consider going to which is about 2.5 hours drive from Holyhead is Southport just north of Liverpool. It has a really nice beech. Theres a small amusement park and of course you have Liverpool, Blackpool and Manchester all on your door step with plenty of shows and entertainment for you and your kids. Llandudno is around an hour from Holyhead as well has a great beach and lots of family friendly things to do also. You have a lot of choice.

Jjbrien is right, we have travelled to Tenby twice, once with Stenna, and once with Irish ferries, I had forgotten that with Stenna we sailed into Fishguard.
The drive was very straight forward and not long we did it in under an hour.
    Sorry for any confusion.
Hope op has a lovely holiday:)
