Saorsat DIY installation

I have set up several Freesat/Saorview combi dish/aerial systems for friends and family. All of these setups were relatively without to much trouble.
My brother law is in a black spot for picking up Saorview with an aerial and has invested Saorsat and Freesat Fixed 90cm Dish + HD Receiver set up with a Ka LNB for Saorsat and a Ku LNB for Freesat.
Must I have a DVB-S2 satellite meter to tune Saorsat and how difficult is it for a DIYer to get this up and running ?

A beepy meter will work. You could use the receiver to confirm you have correct Satellite. If you have set up dishes before it may be a little bit new to you but not impossible.

Best to tune the receiver beforehand to a know setup on 28.2 for UK channels at say your home. Then set up Saorsat on it's own. Finally use the DiSEqC switch to automaticaly switch between the two LNBs.

If you knew what you are doing it would take a hour or two, but for first time it might take a day. There is a dedicated Saorsat thread. It might be worth playing with the system at home, or if you do not have the time pay someone who has done Saorsat before. Timewise this would be quickest.

I will tune the receiver at home as you recommend but do I allign the free view LNB to to 28.2 before I try to allign the Saorsat ?

It depends on your dual LNB bracket. RTENL recommend the Saorsat LNB go in the centre at prime, but some brackets cannot mount any LNB at prime. Generally I would say align Saorsat first if at prime, if not still put Saorsat at prime and get it working, then add bracket and re-test. Once you have Saorsat working, you need to mount 28.2 and get it working. Depending on the bracket both may need tweaking.

On the saorsat thread there are links to videos, pdf's photos etc.

After doing some more research it does sound as it is very hard to tune Saorsat without the DVB-S2 satellite meter.
Can anyone recommend a pro sat installer in the Cork City area that could do the job. My brother-in-law rang around and the few Satellite installers he spoke to did'nt have the 'right equipment' to tune it.

try http://www.isaa.tv/features.php?county=cork for a list of registered professioanl installers. One of them should be able to help you out.

As an alternative, you could align the dish to 9E Eutelsat 9A with your Ku- band lnb and your existing meter, then swap it out with the Ka- band lnb for Saorsat.

If getting any installer make sure they have installed Saorsat before.

Any satellite receiver with DVB-S2 can be used instead of a professional satellite meter. In fact I prefer using a real receiver and a TV than a portable meter.

If you can get a second hand satellite Internet dish of the correct size for saorsat reception in your area, it's designed for KA reception, use TX 125 cable and decent compression F conns if you are going to diseqc 28 as well,

Mount the dish with rawlbolts on a decent l arm, and if you can do this and have everything set up for an alignment then call a decent installer to align the dish for you, this will save you a lot of time and money,

You can see a 90cm dish here with a Saorsat LNB and a Freesat lnb, the dish is looking at Astra 1 @ 19.2east and the Saorsat RTE channels are booming in as are the UK freesat channels. http://www.satellitetv.ie/saorsat_complete_kit/saorsat_freesat_dish

It's a job you can do yourself if you are patient and have the time.

Not a hope in hell of that dish in the picture with the LNB's set up as in the picture working in N W Donegal, and what is it Triax or Technomate, or just a bad pimp for yourself,

If the dish in that picture is picking up Astra 1 @ 19.2east and the Saorsat 9east then how are Freesat channels booming in when their is no LNB setup to receive Astra 28.2 and Eurobird 28.5 east. Strange that is.

It isn't picking up 19 east; that's where it's aligned but there's no lnb in the centre.

We know that but OP's post gives the impression that the dish picking up 19 and 9 east will give the UK Freesat channels.

Are you completely certain that Saorview reception is not possible ?
I have never found a blackspot in Cork City . Have had to use reflections a couple of times, but had worked out well .
If Saorsat is necessary , although I have used muti-feed bars, I always prefer to use 2 seperate dishes gor Saorsat and 28e FTA.
Two lnbs on a single dish is always a compromise .

It gives no such impression, no mention of picking up 19 east. If you weren't in such a rush to criticise, you might see that. (I'm not defending his blatant advertising btw.)

I was in no rush at all to criticise. I posted what I read on his post.
I'll leave it so now as the thread will be probably be locked or deleted shortly.
