was looking at this and this

Has anyone any advise on what to look for as the mileage would be higher than I would normally go for.

Mileage on the second is quite high for a 4 year old. Going by my service rate it would have had 18 services since it was registered, so make sure the history is all there.

I found it hard looking for one of these myself a couple of years ago, what I found was that a lot of them where former rep mobiles, hence the high mileage and longer mileage between services.

Also if you settle on 2009 it will be due its first nct this year so try get them to do it first.

Sorry for the hijack, but was wondering what is the civic hybrid like to live with?

Have a look at the mondeo, If you could find one in a Titanium model it would be much nicer

Would go for the one from Peter Deignan, it's an Irish car with FSH, probably an ex-fleet car, so should have a full stamped service history book...

As mentioned, the drivers side door looks a different shade, so make sure you get a full Cartell check on it and a UK milleage check as it's most likely an import...

I've been looking into used Passat estate diesels, and have found most/all have no stampted service book, altered millage(clocked) and one was an insurance write off in the UK, so always do a Cartell check before you hand over your cash, an Irish check is no good if the car was brought in from the UK.

The hybrid had been faultless to have over two years. Fantastic economy, great to drive and will be sorry to see it go.

Can either trade or sell it for 12k. If your looking for a hybrid I highly rate it. Only flaw is the boot is smaller than its petrol sister due to fuel cells.

Thanks for the heads up on the vw, will defo run a cartell check. Is the high mileage a concern and if so what should I check..... Timing belt has been done, should I be checking any suspension areas etc..

Spoke to Peter in bray last night and have a veiwing booked

Perrdub, are you saying the door on the silver model is different or the black one from peter?

Not really a concern, I've seen those 1.9TDI's go for half a million miles, but service history is important. In the service book it tells you what specific jobs need to be done and at what mileage so spend time checking to ensure it's been done. I'll grab mine and post a picture if I get time.

Timing belt should be done recently given the mileage. If not ask them to do it before sale, make sure they include a water pump change and the belt tensioners in that as well. Pricey but no harm in asking ;)

For suspension, check for leaks on the shocks, not a common issue with these but good to check. I would be more concerned about the arms and rubbery bits on the suspension with high mileage, ask if the bushings where done.

18 Services!!!!!!!!!!! Where the hell did you pull that figure from? 6 is what is should have had, based on the manufactuers guidlines using long life oil.

The black one definately looks ex. fleet so there should be a history available for it. It's not one of ours though.

Based on the Bluemotion badge in the grill it's a 2.0Tdi 110ps 5 speed. Not a bad engine, smoother, quieter and more effecient than the 1.9Tdi and more usable torque than the 1.6Tdi that replaced it. Needs a bit of working if fully laden, to get it up to Motorway speeds, but good for the speed once it gets there.

Check the A/C works properly as we've has the compressor fail in quite a few 09 Passat's, and that's €750 - €1,000 to replace.

The Silver Highline is a UK import - you can tell by the horrible, saggy, retro fit leather and lack of Climate Control.

    I service my car every 10,000km :)

Granted it's more often than the recommended, But I think your 6 is a bit low, that would put it at a service every 30,000km?! Manufacturer's guidelines would be every 15,000km or 12 services for a car with 180,000+ KM's

LOL, that's what I remember reading in the manual, and my dash tells me the same.

15k is the interval if it's not using long life oil. All our Passat's are run on 30k service intervals, using long life oil, as per the manufacturer's specification.

Probably a bit cheaper to use the non long life oil, but in the long run it's cheaper overall to run long life servicing, especially if a car is doing 45,000km a year (or over - the Black estate is around September reg, so not even 4 years old yet). There don't appear to be any ill effects running Passat's on this service schedule.

30K intervals maybe on a car racking up stellar miles but not on a car living in the city, give me annual oil changes or 15K any day. I'm deeply suspicious of manufactures long service intervals, great on paper for fleet buyers who only hold the car a few years, not so good for the rest of us.

cheers for the feedback and information, going to see the black bluemotion on friday evening after work for a look around the car and see what deal can be had. might ask for NCT and see what if any discount might be had. Peter called and told me the timing belt is done and full service documented history is present.

any other advice would be great.

    cheers
