    Hi :-)
Has anyone else had the same surprise?
Our so called male Lutino cocatiel just layed an egg!
For the last week or so 'he' has been pacing up and down the floor of his cage,
and letting out absolutely deafening screeching sounds. Like...REALLY deafening!

Gave the lil divil a fresh bowl of water while ago, and low & behold there was an egg!

We bought 'him' last May for the child (communion money) was told he was a she..... and assemingly she was only 4 weeks old when we bought her.

    Any advice please? Thanks :-)

    Ha!
The Lutinos are harder to sex because of how pale they are- the stripes on the tail that indicate their gender can be much harder to spot than the regular grey birds.
It's not normal for them to scream when laying though. The egg could have been stuck- this is called being "egg bound" and is very painful. You need to make sure she's getting a nutritious balanced diet so her eggs are formed normally.

Thank you very much. She seems to have absolutely no interest in her little egg, but shur that might change. I can't believe she's a girl! She wasn't attempting any words at all for us, so that would explain that too.

    Thanks again! :-0

She won't pay much attention to it if it's just a blank- if she'd been mating with a male it'd be different. I have a male (Lutino as well) and he's not a talker at all, but he loves to whistle!

Our African Grey did the same about 5/6 years ago HE was an integral member of the family, living in the kitchen/living area, very communicative and social & then one day there was the egg in the bottom of the cage. No mate, no odd behaviour preceding the egg appearance.

She (sexing birds becomes easier in situations such as egg laying!) had no idea what to do with it, we placed some soft bedding around it for a few days, she would tentatively look down at it & then investigate before eventually ignoring it completely at which stage we removed & disposed of it.

I think it can be common, yet harmless enough.
