Connacht Hotel (formerly Carlton Hotel)

    I'm looking to book accommodation for me and a friend in April. I'm struggling to find a hotel within walking distance of the city centre. I had found the Carlton Hotel on Bookings.com but when I looked for it online, I couldn't find it. I rang the number and she said they now operate under the Connacht Hotel. There still does not appear to be much about them on the internet. I was just wondering does anyone know anything about it? Are they a safe bet to go with for a night away?

    I presume we're talking about the establishment formerly known as (depending on age/memory/blowin status):
    Ryans Hotel
    Days Hotel
    Carlton Hotel

    Safe enough, they've changed the name a few times since the late 90s but it's been operating the whole time. It's a about a half hour walk to town.

    A little closer to town is the Travelodge on the Tuam rd and the Western on prospect hill is just off Eyre Sq.

    It's a decent enough place and has a very nice pool & gym.

    There is also the Radisson which is right by the train station and the Harbour Hotel which is near the docks. Both of those would be far closer to city centre than the Carlton/Connacht while being sufficiently distant from 'the main drag' so that you're not ensconsed in the thick of it all.

    Suggestions;
    http://www.eyresquarehotel.com/

    http://www.imperialhotelgalway.ie/

    http://www.garveysinn.com/

    http://www.victoriahotelgalway.com/

    All of these are verging on Eyre Square and there are some deals to be had, hope this helps.

    Thanks for the replies. I was just worried about the Connacht Hotel as you never know with hotels these days.
