2 NIGHTS PER WEEK AT HAROLD’S CROSS
    26/02/2013

There will a change in the in the racing schedule at Harold’s Cross from Friday next. For the remainder of the year there will be just two nights racing per week at the track with the Monday night meetings scrapped.
However the Tuesday and Friday card will be marathon 13 race affairs with a starting time of 7.45 pm and the last race going off at 10.28 pm. Doors will continue to open at 6.30 pm.
To facilitate the changed times, the pre-racing trials will be switched to earlier times between 6 and 6.30 pm and these MUST be pre-booked with the racing office.

    HX MONDAY DECISION EXPLAINED

Earlier in the week we carried the story relating to the change of racing schedule at Harold’s Cross and the fact that there would be no Monday racing for the remainder of the year.
Philip Peake, the Sales, Operations and Commercial Manager for Harold’s Cross, has issued a statement outlining the thinking behind this move. The release reads:

    STATEMENT
Following consultation with the Dublin Greyhound Owners & Breeders Association Harold’s Cross will race for two days, Tuesdays and Fridays, for the remainder of 2013 from 1st March. Following this recent agreement and with the cooperation of the Dublin Greyhound Owners & Breeders the IGB have put in place following structure:
° The Total Prize money allocation for Harold’s Cross will remain the same as planned for 3 original nights a week.
° Money saved will be invested into a major sweepstake each month for greyhounds such as the one currently being advertised.
° An additional qualifying trial session will be introduced if required and private trials sessions times increased should there be the demand.
° Regular reviews will be held re allocated prize money with a DGOBA representative
° The option has also been put in place that if greyhound numbers improve dramatically that additional Monday nights will be run to cater for this demand.
° Further consultations will be held with the Dublin Greyhound Owners and Breeders before any decisions are made for the 2014 schedule.
So far, as a result of racing for two nights a week during this February, average attendances have increased by 13% and Tote turnover has risen by 4%.

Philip Peake said "We hope that the new schedule will create a much better atmosphere for all visitors to the Stadium with stronger attendances and more entertaining racing. There is evidence of this already in February with attendances up on 2012 and Tote Turnover up on the same period last year which is extremely positive.
“We have a strong working relationship with the DGOBA who worked with us on this decision which was taken for three main reasons: due to the reduced level of greyhounds available for racing at Harold’s Cross at the moment, a reduction in attendance levels on Monday nights for the past 12 months and increased costs for owners & trainers travelling to the stadium. In light of this and due to the current economic climate it is vital for us to realise the full commercial potential of the Stadium and thanks to the joint efforts of Harold’s Cross & DGOBA we are able to put a structure in place to achieve this".
