    Hi,
Got a chip at the very top of the windscreen this morning from a stone off the road.
Checked the Autoglass website and it seems that the windscreen needs to be replaced.

2 questions, the windscreen is a quickclear one and it also has what I think is the aerial for the handsfree stuck to it.
Will you expect that the replacement is also quickclear and will they attach the aerial to it and the tolltag :)

    Thanks

It'll certainly have to be exactly the same as the original anyway, ie quickclear. MAke sure it's the same colour too.

Well, they would say that wouldnt they. In the UK (and I am assuming in Ireland too for the NCT) you only have to change the windscreen if the crack is more than a certain size and it is in the line of vision of the driver. I had a chip in that area and got it filled/repaired .... 18 months later got another chip in that zone but it also cracked about 2 inches long -> new windscreen.

The excess for a quickclear is much bigger than for a standard windscreen .... dont know about the aerial.

I'm pretty sure if the stone chip is in the wiper sweep its a problem..
I taught the excess was a set amount

Contact your insurance to see if you have windscreen cover if you do let them sort it out and it should be free of charge, more than likely they will come out to you aswell

Does the policy excess apply to windscreen replacements? I've never been charged an excess on windscreen replacement and one of them was a quickclear screen too.

Not charged excess on windscreen before. They were "standard" windscreens though.
This one is quick.clear though. The aerial and toll tag a probably just stuck on.

I suppose it depends on your policy.

My policy is to get what I want.

I replaced mine a couple of weeks ago, got a call from the guy asking the details of the car and if the windscreen had any electronic elements built into it, mine was a straightforward one but I assume it's a like for like replacement.

I removed my toll tag myself but after they had replaced it they had put back on the disc holder and even the service sticker, it was as if the windscreen was never changed.

Went to autoglass in Galway and full replacement of the windscreen including the rain sensor and quickclear will be done.
