bass pickups not working

Hi, just wonder could someone throw some light on this issue. I have an Aria Pro 2 bass, I fitted a Status active pickup years ago. The bass hasn't worked on passive mode for years as I only ever play using the active setting.
A few days ago it started losing power so I changed the battery, but it made no difference. It has lost almost all power now, if I turn up the amp I can hear the bass faintly.

I removed the back panel and had a look at the circuitry, but there doesn't seem to be any cables disconnected. I also cleaned out the input barrel with WD40 and a Q-tip but this made no difference.

Just wondering can an active pickup just suddenly pack in from old age?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds like some short circuit in preamp, therefore is losing power. Try find a pickup wires, disconnect from preamp and connect straight to the amplifier.
You will know your built-in preamp is gone or not.
Don't use WD40 with electrical connectors, it's oily and can be like insulation.

cheers cezet, I got it sorted. It was a faulty battery clip that was the problem. Its a fretless and its sounding better than ever now, just in from playing
