Opinions on Jaguar X-Type?

    Hi all,

My parents are looking to trade up and their interested in getting a Jaguar X-Type - year 2004-2006 or thereabouts.

Just wondering if anyone has any opinions as to whether these are a good buy or not? Are there any known faults or problems with them, anything to watch out for?

They'd be looking at a 2.0 diesel model. Also, anyone's familiar with them, any ideas on what would be considered a good price for say a 04/05 model?

    Thanks guys!

Ford Mondeo after plastic surgery. Terrible electronics. the only interesting thing about them is 4x4. Money drainer otherwise.

    Mondeo is a nice drive.

I think the styling is far more interesting than anything in the range.

    Money Drainer how ?

It shares an automotive platform with the Mondeo, yes. Good, solid bus and the Duratorq diesels are unburstable, as are the Duratec V6 petrols. Like most Jags they need a good, strong battery or else electrical poltergeists will manifest at some point. The transfer case is a known weak point on the four-wheel drive models.

I got a 2005 x-type 2 litre diesel last year and and I am loving it.

Its the Sovereign model so it has all the extras, heated, electric seats, touch screen, sat nag etc....

I did drive a Mondeo around the same time and there was no comparison for me.

Problems? The DMF had to be replaced, but I know that beforehand so it was no surprise. Other than that it has been very cheap motoring with no problems.

I get in the mid 40's mpg, for mixed driving, a lot better on a long run.

I got mine in the UK as I could't find a good one here, they were all a bit tatty.

I'll be keeping it for a few years!

I like the X-Type, sure its a bit of an odd ball but I like the retro styling and faux luxury.

S-Type is like the retro styling a bit. X-Type...meh.

XJ jags (X300, X308, X350) are the only ones I like but even them just from the distance and photos. Had X300 and was quite happy to see it go. Friend of mine is trying to get rid off his X-Type for some time. Absolutelly sales proof.

Bar the quality issues they are absolutely stunning cars though.

Well my x type has been with me for 4 yrs it 2.0 sport dl 05.............a cracking car was goin to sell it this year for an xf but opted for a cracking family holiday instead and will change it next year, why?
Because after putting up 100000k miles its flawless stunning inside and out. I have serviced it every 10k and all I have replaced are shocks, bushings, etc no major outlay so in relation to electrics there perfect.
    My mpg is over 50
My Mum has an 09 Mondeo and there is no comparison.Mondeo engine, Mondeo Chassis and thats it the rest is Jag.
And pcardin id say he is looking for too much for the car or there is an issue?
