Venue - Help

Hi, get married in summer 2014. Am looking for either a small hotel or a country manor house that can accommodate 120 guests and has good Food and service. I'd like some or most of guests to be able to stay at the venue.

    I've already checked out:
Lyrath - didn't like it at all
ballymargarvey - beautiful but didn't feel right for us, nor did the expensive price tag
Mount Juliet - didn't like the fact the reception is in the old house then you are moved to a clubhouse.
Castle Durrow - Beautiful but couldn't justify €125 per head
Clonabreany house - again lovely but too remote.

Going to check out KClub, Mount Falcon and maybe Rathsallagh , have also been looking at Kilronan&Lough Rinn, however the latter 2 have this minimum no. ****ology which really irks me!!

Any feedback from anyone who got married, is getting married or has attended a wedding would be appreciated. Or any suggestions on any venue I've not already mentioned.

    Thanks
    K

    these are often mutually exlusive.

Some other options if you look in wicklow try tulfarris (near rathsallagh) and brooklodge, ballybeg and tinakilly. Further afield in borris, co carlow there is the step house (my sister booked here for may) and borris house. Also if you would consider a marquee then id recommend Lisnavagh in rathvilly, carlow where I was married.

Rathsallagh is excellent. Got married there last August and can't fault the place in any way. There are 29 bedrooms and a minibus service to bring people back to local b and bs. Food and wine was great, staff very accommodating. Feel free to pm me if you have more questions

    Boyne Hill House in Navan?

Why did you have to start a separate thread on this instead of just using the one everyone had already replied to??

I've just seen this now kmartinez and further to the pm, I think Markree might really suit you as you'll have exclusive use and plenty of space with 120; also there are 30 rooms as well as self catering accomodation in the grounds so everyone can stay. Jeremy is the manager down there and he's really easy going (bit slow on the emails but he will answer eventually!)

    Hi Grainuaile

Thanks for getting back. Going to have a proper look at Markreecastle, looks lovely. I'm from Kildare so have no idea where it is, how far is it from Sligo? Did you check out any other venues?

    Thanks
    K

Markree should be fairly easy for you to get to, if you come down to Sligo on the N4 its just before the dual carriageway, not far off the main road at all.
We also looked at Belleek Castle in Ballina which is lovely, really castle-y but really old, we're talking stone walls stone floors and suits of armour. It was fairly cold and dusty the day we were there but that's not really fair as they had just that week opened up after being closed for the summer. They had had a wedding the day before though which was worrying I thought. They're lovely staff though very honest and easy to talk too. Guest rooms are limited though, only 10.
Also visited Mount Falcon, wasn't impressed with the service on the day or the function room which is quite small and not attractive. Grounds are beautiful and some of the reception rooms are too. Bedrooms are fairly run on the mill. If you're going for a civil ceremony, Mount Falcon do in in the lobby which I found strange, alternatively you can use a meeting room upstairs (yuk)

We had our reception last October in Finnstown House. I couldnt praise them enough. Food was fantastic, staff were very polite and efficient, the room was lovely and even though it holds up too 200, we sat 132 for dinner and it didnt look empty in the slightest. Ill see if I can attach one of our room photos to give you an idea.
