Advice on Sky wanted

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have the sky HD package for 13 months now, however we have had problems with it since we got it in. A lot of the time it didnt record for us, when we would switch it on and go to the TV guide it would say no listings available. So each time we rang sky and they were able to help us fix it over the phone.

I rang them about 3 months ago as we experienced the same issue and the guy on the phone at that time told us we had the wrong box, we have the matt black box with silver face and low enough memory for recordings (it should be a black high gloss box with high memory) and it was faulty he would have to arrange for an engineer to come out. He had stated that because this had been an ongoing issue he was referring it to a manger and would have a manger call me back and at that stage we could arrange a date with the manager to have an engineer come out.
Surprise surprise we never got a call back from a manager, so I called a few times explained the situation and kept getting fobbed off, they kept saying they would have manager call me back. I eventually gave up as the sky was working again.
But this weekend same issue happened, I rang sky yesterday and he walked me through rebooting and resetting again, we can get into the tv guide and watch each of the channels but we cannot record.
So the guy yesterday said an engineer has to come out and as we are out of contract it is going to cost E100.00. So I explained what had been happening and about how I had been fobbed of and now I am expected to pay E100.00. I wa son the phone for about an hour and at least 40 minutes of that I was on hold.

My question is, what do you think I should do? Do you think if I called back would there be a possibility of getting the fee waived due to the fact that I had never received a call back even though I followed up numerous times or should I move to another provider like UPC.
Also if I were to move to UPC would I get chanels like sony tv, challenge sky living, sky 1.
Thank you all in advance .

Just ring up and say your cancelling unless they fix it for free.

Expect an engineer out soon and no cost

UPC cable may not be available in Donegal. UPC MMDS may be available. You may still be in a contract with Sky. UPC is freephone 1908. UPCs system is not as good as Skys.

You are probably best to get your problem fixed. In in contract tell them to take the box and dish away as it never worked properly, or else replace the box and dish with working ones. Don't pay for a service that does not work.

As above, get talking to the cancelations department and tell them you sre not prepared to pay 100.

If still no joy, you can (if applicable) cancel and get someone else in the house to join as new customer.
Or just buy a 2nd hand box from adverts etc.

I was on half price for the last year and 1/2.My deal was over next month so I rang to disconnect.Went thru the usual rigma-roll and eventually passed on to the supervisor.Best they could do was a 25% reduction no better.Think it all depends who's the supervisor you get thru to.Any way back to free sat and saorview for me.

UPC is not available in Donegal - think Sligo is as far that they have come.

Got 10 quid off 35 for 12 months today.
Will sign up to hd one of the days as I want the f1 so happy enough at 5 quid extra per month for hd compared to where we were. I believe the formula 1 channel is going to be sky sports only for new subscribers from april. Hopefully if I get the hd sub shortly, that will leave me f1 for year at least via the hd pack.

Once F1 goes to the Sports package you will have to subscribe to it as it won't be available to HD customers without Sports. So Sports is €35 and HD is €15 which adds up to another €50 on your package.

It will be interesting to see if they can do that to existing customers who signed up for hd for that specific purpose (F1). I would think you would have to be left the F1 for a contract period at least or until you change package again.
Either way, I wont be paying for both sports and hd as sports alone will give the F1 if it comes to that. Its doubtful that I would pay for sports either tbh. I have RTL channel too for F1 but its a pain in the hole really going with bbc radio 5live commentary etc.

Can't see that happening I'm afraid. If you have an Xbox 360 you can watch the sports with someone else's account as long as they have the sports package.

Got the hd today. Its still clearly stated on website that if you want f1 channel, you either take hd or sport. There is no way they can then take away my f1 next month having signed me up to hd on that basis and given that im also paying more for the hd than people on the new incoming packages.
The general consensus seems to be that existing hd subscribers will retain the channels available at time of subscribing. Anything ese would be a legal minefield for them.

Anyone that already has HD will keep F1 channel, new subscribers will need to get Sky Sports as they are launching a new HD offer soon.
