    WTF!!!:eek::eek:

    I was just turned away from my local Post Office when I tried to post a phone to the UK. I was informed that An Post will no longer accept anything with a battery for overseas delivery!!

    I assume it works both ways so that means that we cannot buy 90% of electronic items anymore if they come from overseas as most electronic gadgets have batteries.

    What are they smoking at An Post these days?:rolleyes:

    I just rang the main "Helpline" and it was confirmed that An Post will no longer accept any packet with a battery for overseas delivery.

    Batteries are listed as hazardous material under shipping guidelines but are usually OK when they're packaged within the item that they're supposed to power.

    They're probably refusing to ship private packages, but I'd say commercial packages are no problem. I've received stuff containing batteries in the last few weeks.

    Just don't tell them there's a battery in it.

    Why did you tell them it was a phone? Try again at a different post office and if they query you, tell them it a pair of glasses that you are returning. F**k them:rolleyes:

    So much for our "Smart Economy". Looks like any electronic stuff we manufacture will not be able to leave the country :rolleyes:

    Are other European Postal Service similarly hamstrung by this "policy"?

    It's a EU regulation which applies to all european postal services. The german "Deutsche Post" also refuses to carry liquids and Lithium batteries by airfreight. But before the deutsche post returns the package to the sender they first check if there's an option to carry the goods alternatively by land or sea. An Post only carries by air, so no way to post liquids or batteries outside of ireland.

    Welcome to the new world of global online business which seems to be non-existent for AnPost.

    Australia Post won't send anything with a lithium ion battery either. You have a to use a specialist courier.

    I sold some items on ebay and tried to post the other day. According to my local post office, makeup of any kind cannot be posted because "it may be a bomb"! How do you argue with that?! I went to another post office and wrote accessories on the customs declaration this time. Got there safe and sound! Try another post office.
