best advice anyone can give is READ ..... LEARN ....and DO !!

most photography courses start with the history of photography, understanding of how a camera works, the relationship between ISO, Shutter Speeds and Aperture.

All the information you need to learn is available online - hundreds of tutorials and websites full of advice and information ...even being a member of boards you can ask for advice from the many professionals and excellent amateurs around.

Get out there and take photos learn what your camera can do and what it cant .... oh and RTFM (read the F*ckin manual ...find out what all the buttons do and figure out how to change settings quickly )

Buy a book called "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson

Also, not trying to be sarky, but read the camera manual as well to understand what modes do what

if its cheap enough i think the hands on lessons can help... reading or watching is one thing but seeing someone show you and answer questions is great for the bare basics i think
