Passat tyre pressure

Hi, I have a 2.0 Tdi Passat running 235/17/45's. the recommended tyre pressure inside the filler cap is 2.6 bar for regular loading. That's 37.5 psi.
I just got 2 new tyres fitted and the guy in the tyre shop said I shouldn't inflate above 32 psi. My rear tyres are wearing strangely with flat sections wearing on the inside.

32 PSI sounds about right for normal load. I've got a passat running the same size wheels, 32 PSI is what I'd aim for. 37.5 seems a bit high to me, but your making me feel I should check the specs :)

If it's wearing more on one side I would say the alignment might be out rather then the Tyre pressure, when was it last aligned?

It was aligned/tracked around 18months ago. I got it done again today so hopefully that'll sort it.
It seems strange that VW would see such high pressures

Is your's a bluemotion model? If so then they do run higher tyre pressures, I have 36psi front and rear listed.

If not then you may be looking at the fully laden tyre pressures, which are always higher then unladen pressures.

Uneducated Q but is the reason why a bluemotion model runs a higher pressure than a normal Passat in order to get higher efficiency? If so then do they run normal tyres? If so then why can't the normal passat also run the higher pressure in order to improve mileage? Sorry question fest now over!!

They just recommend the higher pressure for normal driving to squeeze a small bit of extra efficiency, it basically just the pressure recommended for a normal passat which is heavily loaded so there is no safety issue as such. But the bluemotions do have differently tuned suspension to account for the harder ride given by the tyres.
