Have a grand heifer calf born last Thurs (21st). stomach tubed here with colostrum and all seemed grand. Got her drinking from bucket as usual. was not a very greedy drinker . Not moving forward at all though. puts head into bucket and drinks a little bit and stops. Any ideas 2 get her drinking.? skipped a feed but no change.

maybe a bucket with a teat to get her started at least.

No matter the problem with sucks if you check the same few things it solves 90% of problems.

What's happening at the back end? Both scour and bound up will put them off feed.

Temperature? If its up an much at all they feel like ****e and get dopey and go off their feed, often droopy ears too.

How hydrated is the calf? It's a vicious cycle, once dehydrated they go off the feeds which then results in less fluid intake.

Often you'll find all three problems together and it'll kill a calf in little more than 24 hours if not treated properly.

If it is a case of been bound up, stomach not right i've found product stimulex good. Used to have this prob few years back no signs of anything wrong only dung caked and white. Very little trouble since changed to teat feeders.
Not d prob in your case but antibiotics can cause this.

Some just aren't the best drinkers. Hows she eating meal? Has she got constant access to clean water? She might have a lot of that ate too. We tried mixing meal and milk together if they won't drink, but only after trying the teat, some, no matter what you try will only drink from that. You could try getting her to suck yer finger and then placing that hand in the bucket, she'll suck the milk in then.

Other obvious ones though, hows the muck, hows she energy wise?

Not a good result. Had to get the vet. Had slight temp but very empty. Stomach pumped him but no good. Died next day. Sent to lab. Waiting on their words of wisdom... the joys of farming ??????????
