In the last two days, I have been having problems with all my English channels. Lost all the C4 and ITV channels. The BBCs are not great now. They keep stopping and starting. Can anyone help?

There are no English channels on Saorview, so you can't lose what is not there.

So where were you getting these channels from, satellite, cable, or high gain aerial?

As he's in Dundalk, he'd probably quite easily pick up some Freeview overspill from some NI transmitter (dunno which one though, not familiar with the area).

THe problem is going to depend on what setup you have already, could be cable break, water ingress, or masthead amplifier failure, etc. Best to get a good aerial installer guy to call and fix.

Yes, I am in the Dundalk area and I believe people were getting their English on the east coat because of the direct line to the Divis transmitter. (open to correction on that one.) Everything was going well until two days ago. I have re installed it and ran scans which got me the English Channels in the past. I will have to settle for the Irish ones only now.

Probably kilkeel you were receiving from.
Try a manual scan of Ch 45 and Ch 42.

In Dundalk, I'd be pretty sure it's Divis. Kilkeel will have a few mountains in the way.

There is an area of high pressure slap bang on top of the UK and Ireland which can cause problems with interference from faraway signals that 'visit' on the same frequency in this type of weather.
It confuses your receiver such that you get drop outs or nothing.

If this is the problem it will also be affecting your neighbours. So can you check with them,(if they still use an aerial for UK) and see if they're having the same trouble?

Just one other thing to rule out.

In Dundalk. Reception from Divis seems as per normal for me bar ch 29. Chs 21, 24 (HD), 26, 27 - 100% signal quality. Quality on 23 varies alot due to CCI from Mt Leinster.

29 is varying a bit too. CCI from an unknown source?

    Caldbeck & Darvel use 23, 26 & 29. Caldbeck also has Scottish muxes on 24 & 27.

When the high pressure (good weather) goes the signals should return. If you have retuned you might need to retune again.

If they return then it's just a temporary glitch. However this may happen again during the summer etc.

Depending on your current aerial setup a better setup might help. A satellite based setup will not suffer from the same problems, so be more reliable.

Should be powering in in Dundalk no probs here in Drogheda that transmitter in Divis is very powerful and can be received in North Dublin no probs and no CCI.

It indeed may not be the problem, but I wouldn't rule it out just because it doesn't affect your area at the same time.
It's caused by a phenomenon called tropospheric ducting.

It's forecast to be good to fair ducting wise in the next week or so,I use this site.
Signals will stray in the coloured areas.

Ive had problems with Saorview as well over the past week or 2, really bad digital breakup and no signal on many channels including RTE2HD, TV3, TG4, Filmfour, Food Network, Channel 5 amongs some others, very annoying.

As mentioned already, the UK channels have nothing to do with Saorview, other than the fact that they are receivable on the same equipment.

If you're in Dunshaughlin, you really should be grateful for any kind of UK terrestrial reception.

Which Saorview transmitter do you receive from (can be identified by UHF channel no.)? Do you know if it's the best choice for your location & if your aerial is set up right for it?

One important tip I think for theses situations.
Go into your tv or stb's settings and turn off the option that auto tunes or auto finds new channels.

If it's set to on,What sometimes happens is Saorview from a faraway tx will over ride your local one but when the faraway tx gets weaker or fades altogether, your tv doesn't revert back to the original tx meaning you lose your channel or you are stuck on a weak tx with break up.

My experience is that's set to on by default,so change it,and ifyou are having problems then check if you are on the right tx.If you aren't do a manual retune to restore your local tx.

we can only pick up the PSB mux from the north which leaves us with no itv 3 or 4 or film 4 does this mean the signal is not coming from Divis but possibly Camlough OR Newry
is it possible to re-tune into divis ?

You're more than likely receiving from Kilkeel. If you want to try for Divis, you'll need a different aerial setup. Post a pic of what you currently have, if you want to be sure.

"Post a pic of what you currently have"

peter what info do you need to figure out where the signal is coming from

The UHF channel nos. or frequencies of the muxes will tell you where they are coming from e.g. Kilkeel BBC A mux. is on channel 45, or 666 mHz.

I would think you would have a single vertically polarised aerial that gets Kilkeel Freeview & Clermont Carn Saorview. Reception of Divis would require a separate high gain, horizontally polarised aerial.
