Irish Red and White setter X English pointer - Any good

Guys, my Red and White setter was covered 4 weeks ago by an english pointer. Assuming she is pregnent,I was wondering does anyone have any experience of that cross and how the pups might turn out.

The red and white bitch will be 4 next July. She is a really excellent dog, she has a great nose, she is very stylish hunting, very fast and covers huge ground, and is rock steady. She should really be running in trials if I had the ability to really finnish her off.
The Pointer is a 18 month old english, he is a young dog but also showing great potential. He has been backing the red and white up all this season and has also had a few great finds of his own. He too is rock steady and a fine big strong dog.

Has anyone any experience of this cross mix, and what they might be like hunting wise?.

    Cheers.

if the bitch and dog are as good as you say then the pups should have some good potential, after that it's up the new owners and training that will determine how they turn out.

Ive just had a litter and my advice is it is very hard work....If you think you will struggle to home all pups I think you maybe in trouble. Plus the affects on your bitch and financial strain of trying to feed, worm, vac and bed pups and mother.
In saying that, there is a new trend esp. in uk of people wanting x breeds for health reasons. If both parents are working dogs wheater pure or x breeeds, no doubt thier pups will also to the job.
I personally wouldnt breed again, although I have enjoyed it and pups are smashing hard hard work.

Thanks Corco, I take you point re hard work. Ive never actually bred a litter before, so looks like I will find out the hard way.
A few of the guys around where I live, who know the dogs have said they would be interested in a pup. But remains to be seen how many follow through. I suppose it also depends on how many pups she throws.
Ive never actually known or really heard of anyone with this cross, so looking forward to seeing how they turn out. I want to try to get them to working homes if I can at all.

    I'll second that one!

Its hard work seeing after a bitch with a litter of pups, especially if shes a maiden bitch.

As a matter of interest, does anyone have any idea how many pups on average I can expect her to have ?

The Bitch had 10 pups after, 7 dogs and 3 bitches. All doing great.

Haven't tried uploading a photo before so not sure if it will viewable.

I'd love one of them !!!!

But I'd be sleeping in the shed (seriously) if I came home with one.

    Best of luck with them.

Very good on the pup's and most of all the uploading of the photo only joking you have your hand's full there, best of luck but remember as said before if the Bitch and Dog are good hunters, it doe's help if they go to a person that understands how to train them. slow and slow let the dog's be pups they will get there if it's in them.

Best of luck and remember watch where your standing with that many dog's:):)

Guys I'm going to get the pups advertised for sale and on Done deal over the weekend. Please pass on to anyone you know who might be interested in a pup.

I would love to see them go to working homes and see how they work out. They should make great bird dogs.

    Cheers

    Cheers Corco, appreciate it.
I have put them in the for sale section there now. Its a strange feeling I am getting mad attached to them, but know I also need to find homes as there are far too many, and starting to eat me out of house and home:D. They are lovley little things, Hope to get them to good working homes.

I got a dog out of this litter. Have 4 cocks shot over him this year and 2 last year when he was only about 8 or 9 months old. He is still a Small bit giddy but I wouldn't worry about that

Hi Mauser. I'd be looking for a similar dog around April or May next year, so if you happen to have a litter or a young dog by then I'd appreciate a note.
    Thanks.
