Probably a bridal shop would be your best bet. If they didn't have anything, they could probably point you in the right direction.

Get the bridal shop to attach straps to your dress. It should be a simple enough job. The neckline might need to be adjusted as well, depending on the length and thickness of the straps.

i didnt buy it in a bridal shop , i prob should have mentioned that sorry :o

the bodice of the dress itself has to much detail so its very hard to have it altered, i never really thouight bout this when buying it.

ive found a bridal shop who stocks thebvrand so fingers crossed theyll know which way to go

You can get a dress-maker or seamstress to create straps for you. It depends what you want, if it's just removable spagetti straps they can put on a hook on the inside for you.

Dress shops normall just recommend dressmakers for this kind of work, unless they have a seamstress in there as well. WHat county are you in? I can recommend two in Cork.

I don't know the style of dress you have, but if plain white straps are all you need you can just detach a set from a nice multiway or "strapless" bra. Some have lovely lacy straps, some are just plain smooth ones... you might find something appropriate if you try a few shops.

This is awful advice. Why spend hundred's on a dress, then attach BRA straps? It'll ruin the whole look of the dress, and frankly looks cheap.

OP - If I were you, I would take the dress (or a photo of it) to a good bridal shop. They should be able to advise on the best way to attach straps, style, length, and thickness. It's worth spending a few quid to get the look right. They will also recommend a good seamstress who can do the work for you.

    DO NOT get bra straps!!!

OP has said she doesn't want wide straps like they attach in bridal shops. I had "cup sleeve" straps, which were thick, but that's what I wanted.

yes, generic bra straps might not look nice but if you have a look at the detachable straps that come with monsoon dresses you'll see they do look a lot like the silk bra straps you'll get on expensive bras, even down to the re-adjustable length. Like I said, I don't know what your dress style is like, but if it's similar to monsoon dresses then I don't see why that wouldn't work.

Ps; you can also easily crochet around it if it suits the dress or sew on lace to it yourself. It's easy to do and you can pick out nice vintage lace for it if you want to.

i dont mind the thick straps, i dont think i said that i didnt want them. tbh im looking for the ones that start thin go wide over the shoulder and then thin in again near the end. thanks

you can definitely ask a seamstress that does dress mods to make you a set. That's what my cup sleeves were like. They were narrower at the points they were attached to the dress and maybe 2 inch across at the widest point on the shoulder.
Dress shops can usually provide/sell a length of material that your dress was made from if it's custom or a bridal shop, of course if you didn't get your dress from a bridal shop or a seamstress you may need to find matching material yourself. Pick out material that's the same colour as your dress and bring it into a seamstress and explain what you want. Hope you find what you're looking for!
