Hi, we had a new bathroom suite installed last year with a cistern, a dual flush which sits on the back of the bowl.I've noticed recently that a trickle of water is constantly running down into the bowl, could that be caused by water borne grit or is something else needing replacing?

Your ball valve is overfilling and causing this.Check your ball valve and see if you can adjust the level on as its filling to high
If this doesn't work your ball valve needs replacing

Thanks Robbie.G for the quick reply.
I've done a bit of plumbing in the past but someone said that this type,ie. the cistern sitting on the bowl, we're buggers to seal sometimes.
    Will check it out .
    Thank you.

The issue is almost certainly not the seal between the units, more likely there is either a piece of grit stopping the valve sealing completely, or the ball is not closing the valve fully below the top of the flush, so it's overflowing. That may be an adjustment, or it's possible that there is a mechanical interference between the ball and the flush or the cistern edge, which is stopping the ball rising with the water level.

That's either clean the valve, or adjust the close point, or the ball position.

Exactly how that adjustment is done will depend on the make of the valve, there are a lot of different ways to adjust the fill level, and without a picture, it's impossible to say which way it is adjusted. If it's a mechanical interference, the ball may have to be turned on the shaft, or moved in some other way to allow free movement

Is water flowing in to the cistern when you take the lid off? If you lift the ball a little higher, does the water flow stop? If it does, then the adjustment is wrong, if it still flows, there is a piece of grit in the valve, or a mechanical issue in the valve.

Should be no need to go near the seal as such, unless the ball is closing so no flow from the incoming supply, and the fill level is below the top of the flush unit. If that is the case, then there is a leak round the base of the flush unit.

If that is the case, then yes, the seal on the base of the cistern will need to be looked at, but of the possible issues, that's the lowest on the list.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Could possibly be the silicone washer at the bottom of the flushing unit. These can develop "goose pimples" and cause that wee trickle of water. Washers are available but may be hard to source.

    Thank you for your replies.
The ballcock adjustment nut was slightly loose allowing it to rise higher. Problem is solved. Thanks.
