    hi

Just wondering what others think of this ...

i put a phone up on done deal there about an hour ago . i got a text a while later from 82646 - the person asked if i still had the phone - asked for best price and asked me to email them - it was an irish name declan.sirname@yahoo.com

i emailed giving best price - he said it was fine and that he wanted an post to ship and said to add 30 euro for shipping - he wanted my paypal id for payment .

i asked did he want standard shipping or registered - he did not answer that - i had to asked for the shipping address twice and what i got was

a nigerian persons name in nigeria

i emailed him asking why use an email with one name and asked to be shipped to another - he said he wanted to buy the item as a gift for his son ....

seems all a bit fishy to me ....

Avoid. It's a well know scam. Everything you wrote above, I have heard many times before. And I bet that the address, if given was to a PO box.

Ask him if he can send the money to you by western union...

    That'll tell you a lot.

it wasn't a po box - it felt too good to be true from the start - i replied telling him that he was a scammer and that there was info around the web about his name - told him not to contact me again - haven't heard from him since but got another similar text from a katiereece later to which i did not respond ... bloody timewasters ....

    Hi guys,

I work for DoneDeal and we'd NEVER recommend that you reply to text messages asking you to email them directly.

We have a safemail system in place on our site that protects your email address, so they could just email you through your ad if they were genuine.

Anyone that texts you asking that you email directly (outside our safemail in your ad) is probably doing so because we've blocked them from emailing our customers and they're not genuine.

We've got examples and advice for this and other safety advice on our site:
    http://help.donedeal.ie/the-safety-section

Hope this helps and give me a shout if I can ever help with anything else.

    Donna

Anyone trying to get you to ship to a Nigerian address is a scammer.
