Next car & a bit of a mid life crisis

Seeing as the missus has her arse in my 11 reg Fluence most of the time & I'm driving her poxy 05 Megane with all it's issues, my mind is toying with the idea of changing. I don't do much mileage, short commute to & from work & around the town a bit, less than 10K a year.

So sensible me says buy something new(ish) small, economical & reliable but mid life crisis me, says no!!

The little voice in my head says buy something that will make a short ugly guy look damn good :D, but what?

The criteria would be as follows,

Petrol, saloon or hatch, reasonably economical, no more than 1.8l ideally lower, lots of power isn't really a requirement, must be reliable, not something that's in & out of the workshop, not a money pit, a few toys would be nice, good looks,
    MAX BUDGET €14-16K

Please point me in the right direction

Did you say must be under 1.8? This is a Motors forum, I think you are having a midlife crisis! At least have a proper one.

As above, it sounds like you aren't really ready to go completely mental, so something like a well specced Mk5 Golf GTI should do the job for you. It's actually a sensible choice of car (relatively cheap to run, reliable, nice to drive, holds value well) but you can still tell yourself you are going mad altogether :pac:

An Audi TT might be worth a look.

:D Fair enough, wasn't sure about the tax implications, I said no more than 1.8
Tended to go for sensible practical cars in the past or so I thought,

road tax is a small price to pay for the smiles , if your going to have a midlife crisis , keep a big petrol car that has you broke for 3 years, itll be 5400 euro over 3 years to tax a big 3+ litre machine but well worth it.

if i may make a few suggestions

I was hoping not to have to get a second job just to tax it

Did you ever consider treating yourself to a Jag, we have an x type diesel thats doing approx 62 mpg, never any issues get it serviced anywhere as it has Ford running gear and all the luxury of Jaguars, and for €14/16 k you will have a relatively new no.plate

buy the 750i for 9k , tax it for 3 years that will bring the total to 14400, 1600 left over will probably service it twice and have a bit left over for parts incase something goes wrong, 16k for 3 years of motoring where insurance and fuel are your only concerns (mileage depending), still within budget.

I have two issues with the Scirroco. 1) The only one that goes like it should is the R. 2) the only people I've seen drive them are 40+ women that can't afford a boxster.
The fact that the front, middle, and arse were designed by design teams in completely separate timezones with no means of communicating with each other wouldn't bother ye? ;):p
Tis no corrado. Even the original Scirocco given the slightest moderisation would look better! Even with retro throwback back window louvres!

I am surprised the Scirocco has such little horse power, I always(wrongly) thought it was meant to be the sporty VW along with the GTI around 200hp mark. What exact market is it aimed at?
