    Hi

Thinking of heading to the Stuttgart Spring Beer Festival this year. Anyone have any experience of it? How big is it, how many tents etc? I've been to Oktoberfest once so I imagine it's a smaller version of that.

    Thanks

Yes, highly recommend. It is full of life and not so boysterious as the Munich bier Fest. Great vibe, great food and drink, you really can't go wrong.

Ryanair used fly from Dublin to Karlsruhe which is only an hour from Stuttgart but you would need to fly to London first, but nonetheless you could pick up a very cheap flight.

Stuttgart is a lovely city too. There are fab outdoor all year round heated thermal baths also in Stuttgart well worth visiting too, so bring the togs.

Chinasea thanks for all the info. We're arriving on a Saturday at lunchtime and going home on a Monday. Is it possible to get unreserved seats in a beer tent at 13.00 on the Saturday so that we can stay there for the day (and night)? Actually is not having a reservation a disaster or will we be ok :)

Don't think it will be a disaster as you will be able to sit in areas that aren't reserved and I think you can sit on some of the reserved areas until the punters arrive. But booking is advised. But I would strongly advise you email this guy on Trip Advisor as he is the expert. You will be hammered if you stay from 13.00 hrs!

Agree with all of the above.

You probably won't get a reservation at this stage, but you most likely won't need one.
It's much better than Munich in that you can at most times just walk up and get in the door.

    Here is a map: http://www.stuttgarter-fruehlingsfest.de/index.php?id=341

It's basically a smaller version of what comes along at the end of summer but still more than big enough to keep you out of trouble.
Always worth going along to the Göckelesmaier tent on Tuesdays - 2 for the price of 1 ;)

Take a trip to Esslingen just to the south. It's a nice little place.

Thanks again guys, we've booked and are staying in the Hilton just across from the fest. 80e for a twin room, very happy!

We have lederhosen from Oktoberfest, I assume we won't be out of place wearing them? Oh and any tent recommendations? (Sorry for all the questions, advice is much appreciated).

Na, they're all the same to be honest.

Dinkel Acker have a bit of a monopoly on the beer in Stuttgart so you'll mostly be drinking their stuff.

As for entertainment value, all the tents are pretty much the same.

Just bring loads of money, there'll be no change out of €10 per beer.

    And lederhosen will be grand.
