The designer of the Daleks from the BBC's Doctor Who has died aged 84 after a short illness, his daughter has said.
Former BBC designer Ray Cusick died of heart failure in his sleep on Thursday, Claire Heawood added.
The Daleks became the iconic villains in cult science fiction series Doctor Who, which is due to mark its 50th anniversary with events this year.

They ruled the world, but couldn't climb the stairs. :D
I remember the DR Who series in the late 60s to early 70s well.
    Exterminate!

    RIP. :(

Aw, man :(:( . Never before has a more useless villain instilled such fear into small children. See you on Skaro, Cusick.

This thread is such a 4-channel watching, old timer filter!

    Who was your first Doctor?

    Baker, not Colin either. [oulfella]

Loved the description of Blake's 7 "models looked like leftovers from Dr Who."

Jon Pertwee , loved the series with dinosaurs

But the Daleks were great considering that all the other evil monsters of their generation were humanoid bipeds.

    RIP

Remember seeing a dalek in the wax museum in London as a kid. It talked when you moved close to it. Scared the sh1te out of me.

I always belived that the Daleks were inspired by television cameras, menacingly moving about on the studio floor.

Jon Pertwee was my favourite Dr up until David Tennant (in all fairness Russel T Davies update kicks all the other versions ass, and I say that as one who grew up with Dr Who).

They look like bins. He was hardly a designer.

No surprise there, considering the low budgets many of those shows had.
A sink plunger and a couple of flashing lights attached to a laundry basket was the level of sophistication those props used.
